I’m planning on doing this route over Saturday and Sunday. Pretty sure I’m going to cache some water around where I’m going to camp, on the North side of the San Francisco peaks. I plan on carrying:

-3L hydration frame bladder
-1.5L Camelbak
-(2) 24oz water bottles
-1L hydro bladder (used for cooking)

So roughly 6 liters carried on my bike. Temperatures are going to be nice this weekend (mid-40’s to mid-70’s) and I’m used to riding in Phoenix where it’s still hot.

What do you guys think? Is this overkill? Should I cache some water just in case? I tend to bring more water than I’ll need and I’ve never regretted it, even finishing with 2-3 liters left doesn’t bother me.

  1. I’d be cutting it close with my initial thoughts of 3L (2L orange mud bladder, 2x 500mL collapsible bottles), but with your set up it seems like you’ll be fine. I always use some sort of hydration mix in my setup so I’d suggest you carry some of that already mixed or on hand to mix in a smaller bottle if you prefer plain water. Looks like a fun route!

  2. I think you got plenty, take a filter and you can get water from one of the many stock tanks along that route if you’re desperate.
