Roland Cibil from Rigensburg. Yes. Yes, we are. Yes. Thank you so much for just being so kind and answering lots of questions and it was such a pleasure to meet you. Yeah, we did a a little bit of the journey together. Yes. And it was very good to meet people from Texas and to have a little discussions. Yes. Wonderful. Um so enjoy your trip. Very nice. Thank you. A, that’s cute. Only the girls. All right, 29 miles today. All downhill, Lord willing, to Nuremberg and then for several days rest. Um, anything to say? The rack is doing good. Didn’t break again. Fix the repair from yesterday. Super glue is what it did. Super glue and zip ties. What’s today? the 24th of August and my son got engaged last night at 4 in the morning. So, we were texting and sending pictures back and forth and congratulations to Davey and Sophia. Yeah. Forest. Is this the Bavarian forest? This we’re in the Bavarian forest. Who knew? These were our friends from the campground. The second breakfast. Hello. Good morning. Ciao. Look at the bank of that city. Wow. I’ve never seen that before. [Music] It’s a goat house. Never seen such a thing. Life. We’ve got the bicycle traffic now. Hello Oh, hello. Those are gliders. Oh, those airplanes. Can you see them? But I don’t see the airplane to get them a loft. Is that how How did your grandfathers throw up? I’m on the back of a Model A. [Applause] Wow. But where was the pulling mechanism? Ah, right. It was It had to be integrated into the ground. Yeah. Like a catapult. See how it’s going down to here? Oh, it’s Yes. It’s uh like had like like they do on a aircraft carrier. It’s a glasses window. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Winding wind. A plane took off a moment ago and I thought that it was going to tow some of them and pull up behind the other plane to to launch it. Oh yeah. And so when my grandfather was 16 sometime I think in the 30s 1930s a magazine called on the um in the in the US and look at um and there was a a design for a glider here. Okay. And so my grandfather and his friend built the glider out of wood and canvas and linseed oil. And he told me all they built the ailerons and the cockpit everything. Neither would have been of course flown. And so the first time they put wheels on it and they took off behind a lot of lake test. So they had a long rope and they they were going to take my grandfather was flying and they were going across a field. There were no roads in Texas or at this time and this was in Schulenberg and he he was about to get up and he broke a wheel off. So the whole town came out to see it. Yeah. Like it’s in a book. Yeah. And so the next time they put skids like skis Okay. Yeah. And um and his friends took his turn and at the last minute my grandfather said, “We should put a seat belt.” Exciting. So they took off into the wind and they’re landing into the wind or with the wind, I guess. Wow. Anyway, so the I my grandfather was driving. The whole city was there. The fellow he got up in the air and he said he got up to the full extent of the rope and they had built a little latch so that when they got far enough ahead it would just fall off release it somehow. Anyway, right before he released the the rope, he got scared and pushed the stick fully forward and said she totally destroyed the whole plane. So I had one flight. So with the friends we met um on day 15, we were camping near them at a campground. Just spoke a little bit. Then the next day we saw them on the ride. Um they leaprogged us and we passed them and then they passed us and then we went to the same campground again. So they camped next to us. It was very fun and had dinner together. They were both Lutheran pastors and we sat around for actually hours last night having good conversations and it was so fun. And then today we’re riding along the same path as them as well. We’ve already spotted them like a couple of times. So very fun. [Applause] So, we were following the same route as our friends because we both use commute and that was fun. Um, but tonight we probably won’t see them because they’re going to a campground and we’re going to a hotel in your but they told us the history of those maple things that we’ve been seeing in all the cities. They said that each city puts one up either the anniversary day of this of the town or the longest day of the year. It’s a big uh tradition and celebration where they get this big tall tree in the forest. Maybe people guard it all night long so nobody steals it and they put it up by hand some of the cities do and decorate it and it’s a big celebration and there’s lots of beer involved but they don’t drink until it’s all set up and then they drink the beer. [Music] [Music] I just wish I knew where we were. We’re on the red line. That’s good. So, we’re getting close to Nerburgg and there’s more cars and traffic and highways and these little tunnels get real scary cuz people are flying through them and it’s hard to not talk when you’re going through them. [Music] We are in a park just to the east of Nberg. My goodness, it’s so pretty. Everybody’s blowing us off the road. [Music] It’s gorgeous. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] Welcome to Nerburgg. I know where I am. Looks right. Beautiful river on the other side of that wall and this beautiful walking area in this park. No, look at this. test. [Music] It says no. [Music] Wow, looks really pretty. So, to sum up today’s ride, it was 29.3 miles. It was beautiful, mostly all through the forest and on bike paths. It was great. There was so many cute towns, so many people riding on the bike paths today. Lots of bike touring people or just people out for exercise. It was a great ride. I’m so glad we’re here. Nerburgg. Looks like a really pretty town to explore. Thanks for watching. So, we we switched to this room. It’s like a bridal sweet. It’s beautiful. Has so many windows and this little bumpout thing with these old windows. I’m scared to open it. Let glass. Nice view. It’s so much bigger. Has a seating area. Has a private area. closets, his and her closet. So much room and a bigger bathroom. So, we switched. We have two more nights here. So, we are so excited to have a little bit more room.
