Diane de Poitiers was an enigmatic figure – a young woman married to an older courtier was nothing new for 16th century France, but her intelligence and poise struck the court even before she became a young widow. And at that point, Diane forever entered history as the capable mistress of her much younger lover, King Henry II of France, and the quiet rival of his wife, Catherine de Medici. This video follows her extraordinary life, following Diane from an educated but quiet young girl to a strong woman navigating her way through a male-dominated world with ease….

during the reign of Henry II he would be led by one woman but not his wife the formidable Katherine de medich but his mistress Diane detier Diane was the daughter of a courtier no different to the other girls at court but she would go through being both the much younger wife and a much older mistress to the king this video looks at her life and the influence she would have over Henry Catherine and and French politics Diane detier was born on the 3rd of September 1499 into one of France’s most prestigious noble families her father Jean detier was a prominent courtier who served King Charles thei and later King Louis I 12 he was known for his loyalty and ambition and Jean like many others of his time sought to position his family among the upper echelons of French society Diane’s mother Jan de batan also came from an influential lineage and this ensured dian’s upbringing was both cultured and politically astute from a young age Diane would have grown up with an awareness of the personal and grander politics at play France from an early age Diane displayed an intelligence and talents that set her apart she was born at an opportune time during the Renaissance and girls in the early years of of the 16th century were generally provided with a varied and academic education Diane was no exception and she was taught to read and write Latin she studied classical literature and developed an appreciation for the Arts in addition Diane excelled in the physical skills expected of noble women such as horsemanship and hunting and she mastered the refined etiquette of courtly life this education prepared her not only for the respons responsibilities of being a noble woman but also for navigating the intricate social landscape of the French Court when she was just 15 years old her parents arranged her marriage to Louie de a carefully calculated Alliance at the time marriages among the nobility were rarely matters of love but were rather practical tools for securing alliances and consolidating power Louie aged 54 at the time of their Union was a grand son of King Charles iith and was the cell of Normandy one of the most powerful administrative roles in the Kingdom he was a trusted servant of the crown known for his loyalty skill in managing Royal Estates and had significant influence in court politics in other words if you wanted to set your daughter up with wealth and power for potential children Louie was a catch however it can’t have been a very exciting prospect for a young teenager to be married to a man well into his 50s but for Diane’s father the marriage was a strategic coup by aligning his daughter with a man of such lofty status Jean ensured the elevation of his family standing for Diane however the arrangements symbolize the beginning of a life defined by Duty and restraint as Louis’s wife she entered a world where her primary role would be to manage the household give birth to heirs and bolster her husband’s reputation by supporting him in the subtle ways allowed for women at that time however despite the vast age Gap Diane performed her duties dutifully and was essentially the perfect wife Louie was a pragmatic man dedicated to his work and deeply entrenched in the political machinations of the French Court he relied on Diane to manage their Estates and represent the family during court events though she was admired for her beauty and charm Di maintained a subdued role avoiding unnecessary attention or Scandal this reserved approach was a reflection of her careful understanding of the expectations placed upon her as a noble woman and wife but would also be something of a direct comparison to her later years however this doesn’t mean she wasn’t present in the center of French courtly life as shortly after her marriage Diane became a lady in waiting to Queen Claude and after the Queen’s death she then served the King’s mother Louise of seavoy their marriage produced two daughters Louise and franois securing the continuation of the family line Diane devoted herself to their upbringing ensuring they received the same refined education and preparation for court life that she had enjoyed her ability to juggle her maternal responsibilities while managing the household and Estates further cemented her reputation as an efficient and capable woman but in 1531 tragedy struck when Louie died suddenly his passing left Diane widowed at the age of 31 although as he was around 70 at the time it also can’t have been unexpected but it forced her to take full control of the family’s considerable wealth this period of grief marked a significant turning point in Diane’s life adopting the traditional morning attire of black and white colors that would later be associ ated with her specifically she Blended Elegance with symbolism the Stark colors reminded observers of her Devotion to her late husband while the Precision of her presentation reflected her self-control and determination she began to cultivate Her Image during this time widows were traditionally expected to live quietly in mourning but Diane transformed her grief into a powerful statement of loyalty and resilience while many widows of of her time retreated into private life Diane seized the opportunity to assert her independence and redefine her role in society in the aftermath of Lou’s death Diane became the sole manager of his extensive Estates a role that required her to navigate the complex and often male dominated world of land ownership and estate administration at a time when widows were expected to rely on male relatives or legal Guardians to handle such affairs Diane stood out as a rare example of a woman who took full control of her financial and social responsibilities but this is more than just a simple story of a woman taking charge it reveals much about Diane’s personality due to her self-reliance and education it’s likely she felt confident enough in her own abilities to not need to lean on any male relatives on top of this she seems to have mistrusted Outsiders to some extent such as when she took charge of her two daughters inheritance herself her Estates included vast tracks of land in Normandy one of France’s most economically significant regions Diane demonstrated skill in overseeing agricultural production managing tenants and ensuring the smooth operation of her properties this often involved negotiating lease agreements resolving disputes and insuring the Estates remained profitable in a volatile economic climate her ability to not only make maintain but also enhance the value of her Holdings during this period speaks to her intelligence pragmatism and keen understanding of Estate Management Diane’s legal Acumen also set her apart French property law during the Renaissance was a complex system that heavily favored male heirs and Guardians in line with the royal family and princesses being unable to take the crown as hirs to protect her daughter’s inheritance and her own Financial autonomy Diane adeptly navigated the legal framework surrounding widowhood and property ownership she worked closely with notaries and legal advisors mastering contracts and titles to ensure her family’s assets remain secure and within her family only her reputation as an astute and capable administrator quickly spread earning her respect not only among her peers but also among the tenants and workers who depended on her leadership unlike many land owners of her time Diane was known for her fairness and attention to detail she ensured that her Estates operated efficiently while maintaining a level of humanity and responsibility that was rare amongst the aristocracy this approach endeared her to those under her charge and bolstered her standing within the wider Community Diane was a popular lady with the Ordinary People which no doubt would help years later with her image as a mistress Diane first encountered Prince Henry the future Henry II of France in the early 1520s during her years as a prominent figure in the French Court her role as a lady in waiting to Queen Claude placed her in close proximity to the royal family including the young princes Francis and Henry at the time of their meeting Diane was in her early 20s and already married to Louie while Henry was a boy of about six or seven the significant age gap between them around 20 years meant that their early interactions were not romantic instead Diane assumed a maternal role offering the Young Prince guidance in matters of courtly behavior and etiquette even in those early years however Henry seemed drawn to Diane’s composed demeanor intelligence and Beauty qualities that contrasted sharply with the frivolity of the Court a pivotal moment in Henry’s life and one that would deeply shape his relation reltionship with Diane occurred in 1526 when he was sent to Spain as a hostage this came as part of the Treaty of Madrid signed after King Francis the first defeat and capture at the Battle of parvia as part of the treaty’s terms Francis agreed to surrender his two eldest Sons Francis and Henry to secure his release when he was sent off as his mother had already died it was Diane who gave Henry a farewell well kiss little Henry was just 7 years old and would sadly spend four years in Spain along with his brother it was a time marked by isolation deprivation and psychological strain the Spanish Court treated the princes with relative dignity but their captivity was strict and they were constantly aware of their precarious situation this period of Henry’s life left lasting scars instilling in him a profound sense of Duty and loyalty as well as a quiet Reserve that would define his character upon his return to France in 1530 at the age of 11 Henry re-entered a court that must have felt alien after his years in captivity by this time Diane was 31 recently widowed and more prominent than ever at court she likely observed the young Prince’s struggles to reintegrate his awkwardness and Reserve setting him apart from his peers when Henry returned to France he was emotionally withdrawn socially awkward and deeply affected by his time in captivity his father Francis recognized that Henry needed guidance to reintegrate into court life and to prepare for his possible role as a royal leader Diane a paragon of courtly Manner and Renaissance ideals was seen as an ideal figure to help guide the Young Prince this would add another complex layer to their relationship her role went beyond traditional courtly tutelage however she imparted not only the formal skills of Court life but also lessons in philosophy history and the Arts reflecting her own education as well as teaching him the subtleties of diplomacy etiquette and Public Image more than this it shows how highly regarded Diane was within the court and by the king to be given a position that would normally beh held by a man Diane and Henry also discovered shared passions that would further cement their bond both were Avid Hunters a Pastime that symbolized nobility and skill and they often spent hours riding and hunting together these excursions allowed them to escape the rigid formality of Court life and develop their Connection in a more personal and natural setting by the time Henry reached adulthood his relationship with Diane had evolved into something deeper his admiration for her intelligence and Poise was transformed into romantic devotion Diane for her part seemed to recognize Henry’s growing affections and responded with unmeasured yet profound loyalty although there’s absolutely no doubt that the ambitious self-reliant Diane also understood this was an opportunity to raise herself further at court while their romantic relationship would not fully Blossom until Henry was old older the foundations of their bond trust shared interests and mutual respect were firmly established during these early years at a tournament in 1531 to celebrate the crowning of elanar of Austria the new wife of King Frances his 12-year-old son Henry wore Diane’s colors of black and white this was a bold statement but may simply have been seen as admiration from a young teenager who had a crush in 1533 at the age of 14 Prince Henry married Katherine deichi a 14-year-old Florentine Noble woman and the niece of Pope Clement iith the union was politically advantageous for France solidifying ties with the powerful Michi family and the papacy while providing a strong buffer against the growing might of Spain while the match was celebrated diplomatically it was definitely not one of Love or even compatibility Henry and Catherine were both young inexperienced and vastly different in temperament cine though highly intelligent and ambitious struggled to establish a strong connection with Henry who came across as cold and aloof to her it’s also highly likely going by later events Henry already had strong feelings for Diane as was often the case in arranged Royal marriages Catherine and Henry’s relationship was formal and distant focused more on duty than affection Catherine was deeply devoted to her husband but Henry remained emotionally detached a trait exacerbated by his lingering Trauma from captivity in Spain by the time of Henry’s marriage to Catherine Diane had already become one of his most trusted confidants their bond forged during his adolescence had grown into a profound and enduring relationship Henry deeply shaped by his years of captivity in Spain and his struggles to find stability upon his return found in Diane a source of unwavering support and understanding through his formative teen years she was more than a courtier or Mentor she was his anchor in a world fraught with political Intrigue and personal uncertainty as Henry matured their connection transitioned into a romantic and deeply emotional partnership unlike many Royal Mistresses including others that would have who held their positions primarily through physical Allure or fleeting passion Diane’s influence was rooted in mutual respect and intellectual compatibility which would ensure she remained in a strong position with Henry she offered the prince not just love but also guidance and stability and was a significant influence on his vision of what a king should be long before he had to step into the role by the time Henry became doofan in 1536 following the sudden death of his elder brother Francis Diane had firmly established herself as his mistress most likely going by letters between the pair starting in 1534 Diane’s position as Henry’s mistress created an inevitable tension between her and Catherine who was both Henry’s wife and future queen of France was expected to occupy the central role in his life while Diane commanded Henry’s effect and Trust Catherine was relegated to the background a position that deeply frustrated her until Henry’s death however the Rivalry between the two women was not always obvious and at court both of them seemed to understand the importance of maintaining a respectful facade towards one another even if the reality was different despite their differences Dian and Catherine coexisted at court for many years Catherine pragmatic and politically stute recognized Diane’s influence over Henry and chose to tolerate her presence rather than openly challenge it but the presence of two powerful women at court created factions among the nobility those seeking favor with the King aligned themselves with Diane While others particularly those tied to the medich family supported Catherine Catherine for her part maintained a measured distance treating Catherine with courtesy but in ensuring her own dominance in Henry’s affections she also recognized the importance of having a queen who would tolerate her and actively ensured that Catherine would not be replaced the triadic relationship between Diane Henry and Catherine was marked by a delicate balance of power respect and rivalry while Diane’s influence over Henry was profound she was careful not to directly undermine Katherine’s position as a queen this restraint allowed her to maintain her Authority without provoking open conflict Diane also ensured that Catherine’s place in ceremonial roles and Court rituals was respected even as she herself wielded significant influence over them and Henry this balance allowed Diane to maintain her Authority without undermining the legitimacy of Catherine’s queenship this became clear as the royal couple failed to have children in the early years of their marriage Mar Diane’s position depended on Henry’s favor but her influence also extended to safeguarding the stability of the French Crown one of her most significant contributions was ensuring that Henry upheld his duty to provide hires even if his affection for Catherine was limited Diane understood the delicate balance of her role while she held Henry’s love Catherine held the title of queen and the legitimacy of the the valoir dynasty rested on her ability to produce children a lack of hirs would destabilize the monarchy creating potential unrest and weakening Henry’s Reign Diane’s political Acumen and loyalty to the crown drove her to encourage Henry to fulfill his marital obligations and this encouragement highlighted Diane’s ability to prioritize the broader needs of the Kingdom over personal jealousy or rivalry on top of this Catherine could easily have been replaced had she not produced any children and in doing so Diane would have lost someone over whom she had a lot of influence Catherine ultimately gave birth to 10 children seven of whom survived to adulthood including three future kings Francis II Charles I 9th and Henry III this Legacy secured the valoir Dynasty and stabilized Henry’s Reign ensuring that France would not face a succession crisis during his lifetime and oddly it was Diane herself who played a crucial role in this process by encouraging Henry to perform his duties as a husband she cemented her position as not only a powerful mistress but also a shrewd political strategist dian’s later title of metri SRA was more than a romantic designation it was a position of significant political and Social Power and at the French Court it was one of the few ways a woman could establish herself in an independent role close to the king Diane’s role went far beyond that of a lover she was Henry’s adviser in matters of State his partner in decision making and his emotional Refuge amidst the pressures of Court life unlike many mistresses who wielded power indirectly or behind the scenes Diane’s influence was celebrated the intertwined initials H and D appeared on official documents Royal Insignia and even archit textural features at court symbolizing their partnership publicly for all to see these public displays of their connection elevated Diane’s status and made her influence undeniable but must have been hideous for Catherine to endure despite the unusual love triangle between them in 1547 Henry II ascended the French throne following the death of his father King Francis at 28 years old Henry was now a conf ENT adult and not the quiet boy he had once been and his relationship with Diane became even more Central to his life and Reign her position as Henry’s trusted advisor solidified upon his coronation Henry relied heavily on Diane’s Council trusting her judgment in matters ranging from State appointments to diplomatic strategies she often mediated between the king and his ministers ensuring that her voice was heard in key decisions her access to the King was was unrivaled and she wielded considerable influence over both domestic and international Affairs and also this could often spark Envy amongst those at court Henry’s elevation to the throne intensified both the admiration and hostility Dian faced at court as a mistress who commanded the king’s ear she attracted a loyal faction of supporters including her family and those she promoted to positions of power she also had those who were fierce detractors but many courtiers sought her favor as a means of securing Royal patronage cementing her influence her prominence provoked animosity from other Nobles particularly those aligned with Catherine as Queen Katherine was expected to be the central female figure at court but Diane’s dominance undermined this expectation this tension created a court divided between Catherine’s and Diane’s supporters but Diane in line with her education and tastes was more than just a political mistress during her lifetime she contributed hugely to the culture of her day in 1547 King Henry gifted Diane the chatau Des shanu a magnificent property located on the river Sher in the lair Valley this gesture was not only a display of Henry’s deep affection but a recognition of Diane’s stature and influence Diane immediately set about transforming the chatow into a symbol of Elegance and power commissioning extensive Renovations that would have a lasting mark on its history however after Henry’s death Katherine would reclaim the shadow for herself and replace many of Diane’s symbols with her own Diane’s patronage extended Beyond architecture into the Realms of literature painting and sculpture as well as a true Renaissance woman she cultivated a court of poets artists and Scholars she inspired Pierre d sad to write verses about her immortalizing her as an icon of Elegance and virtue as well as other poets such as Jean and zakim du jeongan the sculptor created several Works inspired by Diane many of them leaning into her namesake of Diana the Roman goddess of the moon and hunting this was further embellished by Diane as one of her symbols was a triple cresant Moon a symbol of the Goddess Diana the painter franois was commissioned several times by Diane to create portraits of her some of these were in traditional poses but she also posed nude or topless which seems at odds with the careful image she publicly created of herself but in keeping with the fality of the 16th century French court but dian’s patronage also extended to Scholars and scientists reflecting her interest in humanist ideals and the pursuit of knowledge but it couldn’t last forever the sudden and tragic death of Henry II on the 10th of July 1559 marked the end of Diane deer’s influence at the French court on the 30th of June that year King Henry participated in a jousting tournament in Paris held to celebrate two significant events the signing of the Peace of C crai which ended Decades of conflict between France and Spain and the marriage of his eldest daughter Elizabeth of alir to King Philip thei of Spain the festivities were intended to showcase the strength and Splendor of the French monarchy Henry in accomplished and enthusiastic jouster chose to personally compete in the tournament despite his advisor’s concerns about the risks involved the king insisted on facing Gabriel de Montgomery a captain of the Scottish guard in what was meant to be a friendly and symbolic match but during the joust both men charged at each other with their lances In the Heat of the contest Montgomery’s Lance shattered upon impact with Henry’s armor a splinter from the broken Lance pierced the king’s visor and struck his right eye penetrating deep into his brain the injury was catastrophic leaving Henry in immediate Agony Henry was quickly taken to his Chambers where the finest Physicians of the day were summoned to attend to him despite their efforts the medical knowledge of the Renaissance was insufficient to treat such a severe wound the Splinter could not be safely removed and infection soon set in over the next 10 days Henry lingered in excruciating pain slipping in and out of Consciousness his condition deteriorated steadily but eventually the king succumbed to his injuries leaving the French court and Kingdom in mourning he was just 40 years old this also ushered in a period of political and personal upheaval for apparently although the king had repeatedly called out for her on his deathbed she wasn’t allowed in to see him marking the beginning of Katherine’s influence Henry’s death left Diane vulnerable as her power and position were entirely tied to his person without his protection her enemies at court particularly Catherine seized the opportunity to remove her from Power long overshadowed by Diane during her husband’s Reign she wasted no time in asserting her Authority as Queen Mother and Regent for her young son Francis II Catherine’s resentment of Diane which had understandably simmered for decades finally culminated in a decisive Act of Revenge one of Katherine’s first acts was to reclaim the chatau Des Shao the jewel of Diane’s Holdings Diane was compelled to exchange the chatow for the less prestigious chatow D shamon A Move That symbolized her her fall from favor Catherine quickly set about erasing Diane’s influence at shaono replacing Diane’s symbols with her own and redesigning the shadow to reflect her vision on top of this Diane was effectively banished from the Royal Court with a letter sent by Francis II but drafted by his mother stripping her of her influence and connections this Exile marked the end of her public life after her Exile Diane retreated to the chatau danet the other estate she had carefully built and decorated during Henry’s Reign while no longer a central figure in French politics or Court life she continued to maintain her Estates and oversee their operations with the same meticulous care that had characterized her earlier years although her financial resources were reduced Diane’s careful management of her Estates ensured that she lived comfortably she maintained a small but loyal household and her reputation for fairness and intelligence earned her continued respect among her tenants and local nobility Diane’s later years were marked by introspection and reflection while little documentation survives of her personal correspondence from this period it is believed that she maintained contact with allies and members of her family offering advice and support where needed in 1565 Diane suffered a fall while out riding on her horse which left her injured and L largely bedridden for the final year of her life she died on the 25th of April 1566 although there is some debate over whether her fall contributed to her death if it was natural causes or even that it was caused by a gold-based beauty regime modern analysis of remains assumed to be dian’s in 2008 suggested that prolonged exposure to gold-based Elixir a popular Renaissance Beauty treatment may have contributed to her declining Health these Elixir believed to preserve youth likely contained Mercury which would have caused mercury poisoning over time analysis of her hair revealed gold concentrations approximately 500 times higher than normal levels this finding aligns with historical accounts suggesting that Diane consumed drinkable gold or Orum poile a concoction believed in the 16th century to preserve Youth and Beauty chronic congestion of gold can lead to various health issues including anemia brittle bones and organ damage which could also contributed to her fall as well as her overall health Diane detier remains one of the most captivating figures of the French Renaissance a woman whose intelligence elegance and ambition defined an era as the Met of Henry II she wielded unparalleled influence shaping his Reign to her Council cultural patronage and astute political maneuvering Diane was not merely a royal mistress she was a trusted advisor a patron of the Arts and a symbol of refinement embodying the ideals of the Renaissance with her intellectual Pursuits and contributions to architecture and culture her associations with the chatow Des Shao and the chatow danet left an indelible mark on French art and architecture while her support of poets and art artist ensured her Legacy extended Beyond politics even in her later years after her fall from Power Diane maintained her dignity and Independence continuing to oversee her Estates and leaving behind a legacy of Grace under adversity Diane’s life was a testament to the power of resilience and intellect in a world often dominated by men she navigated the complexities of Court life with remarkable skill achieving a level of influence few women of her time could dream of though her story ended in Exile her Legacy endures as a reminder of the impact one determined brilliant woman can have on History Diane detier was more than a figure of her time she was a Renaissance icon a symbol of strength and a lasting example of how Grace and intellect can defy the limitations of an era [Music] if you enjoyed this video don’t forget to like And subscribe so you don’t miss any new documentaries [Music]

This video might change my opinion, but from the little I know of her I don’t rly like her🥲 I tend not to like mistresses (with exceptions, of course, when they treat the wife with kindness and respect- which might be Diane’s case, though that’s not the idea that I have of her- though again, it might well change w the video 🙂
This is a really refreshing take on her, where she really breathes. Not where she's in eternal opposition to Catherine De Medici, yet again. Thank you for doing this justice to both women, choosing not to flog and perpetuate the endless soap opera of plotting rivals for one man and for influence that they are usually reduced to, so often one good, one evil, as if life and history were so morally unambiguous.
Yaaaaay! Good to see you! Xxx
Diane de Poitiers is an interesting figure in French history here are some suggestions for your next video
Philippa of Lancaster, Queen of Portugal
Catherine of Lancaster, Queen of Castile
Eleanor of Viseu, Queen of Portugal
Queen Isabella of Castile
Margaret of Denmark
Joan Beaufort, Queen of Scotland
Anne of Brittany, Queen of France
Empress Maria Theresa
Eleanor of Castile, Queen of England
Margaret of France, Queen of England
An interesting woman, but she still used her position to gain power and status by taking advantage of a young boy.
Among the maîtresses en titre, she's one of my personal favourites. She knew her place and did not directly oppose Catherine.
Yet at the same time, I don't blame Catherine for getting rid of her. In the end, despite being virtuous and beautiful, the real Queen was Catherine.
Yaaaaaay!!!! Thank you so very much for doing this video ❤❤❤
It’s crazy how much the actress who plays Diane in The Serpent Queen looks like Diane in that painting. Excellent casting choice. I know they look for actors with a similar appearance but sometimes it’s tricky when all you have to go by are paintings.
In modern times, Diane de Poitiers would be required to register as a sex offender.
Diane was the same age as Queen Claude, the Mom of Henri II. I'm sure she was close to Queen Claude and that maybe what drew Henri to her. She probably reminded him of his Mom who died when he was a little boy.
My problem with her is that she was a child groomer.
Although she seems to be one of better mistresses (better, I mean being respectful towards her lover's wife) But my opinion about her always sours down, because I deeply believe that she groomed Henri
I first came across Diane de Poitiers while reading the Royal Diaries – Mary Queen of Scots. (dating myself here lol) While I was an older teen at the time, I still got the biggest ick from this woman and her back story with Henri. I am at neutral, at best, with feelings toward Catherine De Medici, and I don't hate Diane, or view her as "evil" or "the bad guy"….. but like, I'm a mom now. I have a young son. I look at her and Henri and the ick is still there. I don't wonder if she didn't gr**m him. Did it happen purely along a "natural" (as much as that relationship can be looked at as natural) way, or did she see a young, traumatized, impressionable boy with the makings of a crush and guide him along the route that would best serve her? I guess we'll never know. But this woman will never not give me the ick.
Diane definitely groomed the king. I’d like to point out Queen Catherine was the one that initially requested the Château de Chenonceau to get away from court life and her sorry a$$ husband gave it to his mistress to spite her. I’d also like to add on the day of the jousting match he wore Diane’s colors instead of his wife’s. Catherine didn’t allow the King to see Diane one last time and I don’t blame her one bit, she was justified.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for this video. I once saw the Film with Lana Turner and I never knew why she only was wearing black and white. Thank you for this insight
This may sound weird, but I find it hard to listen to women narrators. Alot of the appeal of podcasts and these kinds of videos is the person's voice. Like I said , I know it's odd, but a lot of us women's voices are annoying. Lol. But yours perfectly suits the content. 😁🦄
Wahey, there she is! Glad to see you, and with another belter! 😁
The initials on the Louvre are H for Henri and two C's for Catherine and not for Diane.
Erm 🤔🤨😢
A brilliant intelligent capable woman of intellect and imagination.
It was sad when Henry died ( for both Diane and Mary Queen of Scots) Catherine DiMedici hated both of these women and expelled both. Such a shame 😭💔
I love when the stars align. You create a video centered on an inspiring woman; History Tea Time with Lindsay Holiday (my other favorite historical channel) has a video about Queen Catherine, another inspiring woman. Two sides of the same story, fascinating to see how the phrasing and pathos changes 😂
I understand Diane had fewer options in her role in that time… but that age gap icks me right out. 😬 Don't like it, same as "the norm" of older men and young girls. Only complaint/disapproval of her. Otherwise, yay! Another powerful woman I got to learn about! 🎉 Thank you!
As
Her beautiful home, Chateau Chenonceau, is on my short list of places l would love to visit.
refreshing
I’m amazed she posed naked. Really interesting.
I feel so sad for Cathrine
This seems like it's going to be an unpopular opinion, but she was a predator. If she had been a man everyone would be talking about how he used his looks and influence to take advantage of the young and venerable girl. I find it interesting she seems to get a pass. Is it because she's female?
I'm not arguing she was a power house of a woman, i just think it's a little gross that she knew him as a small child and encouraged and cultivated a romantic relationship with him.
Well well well. Historical revisionism and rehabilitation -3rd wave femminist style in denial that a woman is capable of grooming a vulnerable child – young man and adult.
NOTHING has changed in history – she was in a position of power and privilige over a vulnerable person. She had and expectation and resposibility of honour to not make Henry's vulnerability a site for personal gain and gratification.
In a modern court she would be examined as a paedo – which she was and the rest of Europes nobility knew it
on for crying out loud. Show me 1 15 year old boy who is not attracted to a beautiful older woman. I am not saying it would be right in more modern times, but as he was married at 14 I think we can assume he was considered an adult as was his wife.
Franswaz? 😂 never heard Francois pronounced like that
Ummm…it sounds like Diane groomed that kid 🤨
Still creepy.
One of the most well known female child groomers. Henry was only 15 when she's supposed to have finally let him into her bed. Ew!
That monogram looks like an H with a D and a C.
Wow. What a wild ride this was.
Thank you.
Yo, this video’s a banger! Your laid-back vibes make it so darn cool!
Dude, you’re slaying it! This content’s so fresh, I’m totally vibing!
Wow, this is too good! The vibes are so cozy, I’m totally into it!
Dude, this is epic! The storytelling’s so smooth, I’m loving it!
Quw asco de ingles!!…..
She totally used her influence to get to henri and did anything and everything to keep him in her grip. she is just as bad or even worse, than the men of that time
Marrying young girls. She groomed him, all for her own selfish needs. She was vein and wanted power there was nothing else I see out of her. The only reason she gave Catherine respect is bc she knew she could detriment how spot. It's just sad to me what people had to go through and still go through 🙁
Geez, I'd call it, first grooming and then abuse!
SO many paintings and sculptures out there of Dian… pity the vid did nt make more use of them
She groomed an entire king. . . Whew Lord! She was a child bride herself.
She was incredibly smart. She made it so that she had a backup plan in case of such an occasion. We could all learn a lesson from her
