A couple Saturdays ago I woke up with a very mild hangover and a gloriously unscheduled day yawning in front of me. The weather was unbelievable.
So I set out on a ride with no particular goal in mind, and one thing led to another. 8 hours later I had done my first century, and I did it on a 53-year-old bike, and it felt fantastic until the last 15 or so miles…those ones felt pretty terrible.
Anyway, none of my three friends on Strava seemed to notice, had to share with someone.
(Only pic I took on the ride wasnt drive side, so including an older pic as well.)

Sweet bike!
Nicely done!
hell ya!!
> the last 15… felt pretty terrible
My first century had the same vibe haha.
I have the same bike, same size, same color. It’s comfortable and fun to ride but I have a hard time taking it more than 20 miles. Awesome that you did that times 5 on that beauty!
Yeah! I bet everyone thought you were bad ass!
Incredible!! Well done. You’re inspiring me to one day ride a century on my Raleigh Twenty.
Congrats, handsome bike. Always loved the Humbler chain ring.
Always fun doing long rides on the 3. I do one every birthday, one mile for each year I’m am. 55 next year.
My Raleigh Suberbe was also the same year as I am, but I found a slightly older model in better shape this last year.
That B72 is so cool! Is it original to the bike?
My first century was on a hot July day with too little water….ended in terrible leg cramps. Last 10 miles, all flat, took a few hours. I was on a much more suitable bike for long road rides. Don’t think a ’73 3 speed was meant to do that. You must be very fit.
That’s fantastic! I have a ‘60’s Raleigh Sprite, but I think I’d die if I had to cover more than 10 miles on that beast.
That’s a beautiful bike! Love those handlebars and the color. Is that the original seat? Never heard of a Humber. Beauty.
