Bikepacking Iceland I am aware at this time of year will be tough, but I’m hoping with the right kit I can stay warm and dry, hopefully catching the northern lights and completing a successful lap around the country via the ring road 🙂

In 4 days time, I’m going to be getting on a flight and I’m going to be bike packing Iceland. So, I’m going to be loosely following the ring road and it’s heading into winter there. So, as you can see right now, the video is going to be me showing you the kit that I’m taking. Starting off with the most important, we have the Sonda Camino aluminium. So, this has been provided for me as a demo bike from Alkit. So, thank you very much to them. They’ve also provided me with all the bags. So the frame bags, the fork bags, the bag at the front, the handlebar bag, um and uh yeah, and the two back Pa bags. So that is very kind of them. Um and then we also have the bike lights who are also a paid um sponsor of the trip uh from Raveman. Um very cool bike lights front and rear. They also have a GPS tracker on the bike, but I’m not going to tell you where that is. Why would I tell you where that is? That is that’d be pretty bad security of me. Um, and then onto the second sponsor. So, we have these really cool um bottles. They’re called Keo, and they kind of snap off like this really easily, and they cling back on very easily like that. It’s a magnetic bottle. Very cool. Um, and onto the last page. Um, on to the last paid partner of the trip. We have the very cool Vontet helmet. I really enjoy this helmet. It’s a blowup helmet, so you can actually um take this down and like push it down. Um, cuz it’s inflatable. Very cool. Um, I think it looks pretty trendy as well. I kind of look like the Predator, but in a cool way. Do you know what I mean? Not not a Predator. Let’s not get that confused. So over on the far side we have the clothes and a couple of the jackets have been very kindly provided by Outkit. So we’ve got the down jacket, we got the waterproof jacket. Also the beanie has been provided by Outkit. I then have some gators. So what they do is they attach to your leg and go over your shoes. So it stops water from getting into your shoes, which is good because I actually ended up with trench foot on one of my first days of the UK to Australia tour. So I definitely want to avoid that again. I then have some cycling bibs there. A couple of pairs of socks. Some gloves, boxers, couple of trouser thermals, um, a couple of long sleeve t-shirt thermals, and a snood, like a very warm snood, and then I have a thin layer snood. So, the thin layer snood I’m probably going to wear when I’m cycling, and a thick one for over a nighttime sitting out hopefully catching the northern lights. I then have some waterproof um, overlays. You can see where I’m going with this. Iceland is currently forecasted, I’ll put here, to rain for the next 10 days. So, I’m getting very prepared for a very rainy month on the road in Iceland. And lastly, we have what I bought in Nepal. So, these are actually I bought these. They’re knockoff Norface fleece trousers, but they’re incredible. Elliot would know. Elliot Elliot has a pair himself. We both like after getting on the flight, so we we have to get loads of rid of loads of weight. So, um those stayed with us and because we got on a flight from Catmandeue to Vietnam and we were like there’s no way we’re throwing those out. They’re really good. Um was reliable at minus 25 degrees on the top of the Anaperna circuit. So, I trust them to do the job in Iceland, which the lows should get by the end of when I’m there, it should get pretty cold. It should start heading towards freezing. But um we should be okay. I think I think we’ll be okay. I think I am adding a couple of long sleeve t-shirts and maybe a short sleeve t-shirt. I’m also wearing these. So basically these have zips here and um I could put them into long trousers. So I’m going to be wearing these as well. Um so there is a couple of bits missing from there. I do have a spreadsheet. If you want to go check out that spreadsheet, I’ll put it in the uh link in the description. Um, and you can check that out. It’ll have more stuff in detail there if you want to just see it on a spreadsheet. And uh, yeah, shoes wise, I’m definitely not going for these. These are absolutely finished and they stink. I don’t know why I’m holding them so close to my face. But we move on to the sleeping system. The sleeping system is all provided by Vango. So, and this is some really, really good stuff, guys. Like, really lightweight. The sleeping bag, I think, is 1.1 kg, which is on the heavier side, but I’m going to need that for the weather that I’m going into. Um, it should keep me very warm up to minus 4. I think that’s the end of the comfort limit. And then we have the This is an incredible piece of kit. So, this is a 600 g tent. Um, I do still need to go and pitch this up. I might go um and sort that out later and just test that I can get this pitched up, pitch it up well, practice stuff like that. Um but yeah, 600 g tent. Um it actually you blow it up. Um it’s called the Van Go hydrogen air tent. It is very costly. Um so I’m very thankful that they’ve provided me with this. Very cool. And we also have the sleeping mat. I’m not going to get up and show you the sleeping mat. It’s a sleeping mat. is a very good sleeping mat. It has uh I think it’s a freeason sleeping mat. It’s the Van Go Aero Platinum XL sleeping mat, I think. Um so, I’m looking forward to also be using that. Then we just have the cooking system here. And well, pretty much all I can take of it. Of course, I need a gas canister, but you can’t take those on a plane for obvious reasons, I hope. Um and a lighter as well. Um we then have toiletries. just really boring stuff over here. So, toothbrush, nail clippers, um toothpaste, and deodorant and the bar of soap. And then we have the important stuff over here. Well, the semi-important stuff. I’m going to start off with the most important. The most important is the battery packs. You really need to have good battery packs if you’re doing something like this. Obviously, keeps your phone charged and stuff like that. Um, so I have three anchor uh power banks. Um, they normally keep me charged up for 3 to 4 days and then I’ll normally have to find an outlet to charge up. Um, whether that be in like a pub, uh, calf, uh, you know, any anywhere. Um, I’m hoping that maybe now I have a bit more followers, I can sneak my way into some hotels, but we’ll see. We’ll see how that goes. Um, we then have a head torch here, um, for camping. Um, DJI Action Pro. This is a new camera. And of course, the camera that I’m recording on there, which is the Sony Sony ZV1, sorry. Um, and then we have the Garmin for navigation, of course. And probably one of my favorite bits of kit. I have bought this um, twice over the UK to Australia. No, once. So, I bought it, of course, to start and then I bought it again because it was just that good. Um, it has a really high power uh charge here. It also has two USBC’s ports here going outwards and also a two USB A ports. Um, which is very handy. Means you can charge a lot of things at once, five things at once. Um, very nice. Very good bit of kit. Right. And that is pretty much it for the kit that I’m taking. Um, I do actually have more in here. I’m lying to you guys. I have So, in this frame bag here, I have a spare inner tube. I have tire levers. Um, I have zip ties and poo bags. And the last two, you might be going, why the hell do you have zip ties and poo bags? And of course, I have puncture repair kits, stuff like that. But zip ties and poo bags. Why do I have those? Um, so poo bags, I keep those not for my poo. Not for my poo. I keep those for after I’ve had dinner. Um, of course you make a mess, you know, you open the tin of sweet corn and stuff like that. So, normally what I do is I have small carrier bags on me so that I’m not leaving a mess behind and I’m also not just putting the mess into my bags because that’s gross. Um, it’s just some one of those things that you don’t think of if you’re like starting out bike packing. But, um, after a while of bike packing, you go, “Right, I probably need a carrier bag for um, the end of the night.” So yeah, I decided to go for dog poo bags um because they’re quite small, handy. Um and zip ties. Zip ties are just super useful if you don’t know. I didn’t know the power of zip ties before I left UK to Australia. If I did, I’d have taken a load of zip ties. Tell you that much. Um but there’s a saying, and Duncan says it a lot. My friend Duncan, um who’s also a bike packer. He just done a lap around the world. Really cool guy. Um, he says, “If you can’t fix it with zip ties, you’re just not good with zip ties.” And yeah, that is it. So, as I said, I’m going to be leaving an Excel spreadsheet below. You can click on the link to that and see all the kit that I will be taking in like a list if that’s easier. Um, but yeah, I hope you guys have enjoyed this video. If you have subscribed, I will be making more YouTube videos. So, if you guys watch these videos and subscribe, um I’m hoping that I can make a very cool Iceland video at the end of the Iceland trip for you guys. So, that would be cool. And yeah, if there’s anything that you guys want to see from me on here in more long form, maybe even a Q&A about the UK to Australia trip and stuff like that, let me know. And yeah, peace out. See you in a
