I want to swap out my old road bike's rims for news ones. Same style but black and I can't seem to locate this size. I measure 23 in. diameter by 1 inch width. The bike is also a 5 speed with rim brakes.
Am I measuring incorrectly or is than an outdated size? Would appreciate any help or tips.

Maybe just get modern 27.5″ rims and tires? The brakes will need some adjustment. Much easier to find those wheels/tires. No reason why it wouldn’t work.

The 590 ERD/ETRO is a 650a sized rim. You may be able to find a 584 wheel set and adjust the brakes as mentioned.

There is very little logic in switching rim color on this bike as 650A wheels are obsolescent and most that you will find will be silver rims and silver spokes. Yes, 650B is a very similar size of rim so that the rim brakes would work but the bike might not have clearance for fat 650B tires and there are very few narrow 650B tire options. Further, the existing bike only has a 5 speed freewheel so the frame might be built for only 125mm wide hubs. Going down these roads you are likely to pay a lot just because the parts are exceptionally rare.
you don’t need to buy the same width, but you do need same diameter, as top commenter said get a 650a rim brake
