You know how when you're bikepacking, you end up digging your grubby hands through your bags and pulling out snacks and food from every crevice? I was dreaming about a condensed, lighter weight version of the traditional camping chuck box that could sit on top of a rear rack, or even hook on the side of a rack like a pannier. Does this exist? Could it exist? I want to hear all of your thoughts.

Looking at the pic my thoughts went to putting some shelves/drawers into one of those old LP carry cases

Basket-packing solves pretty much the problems that you mention.
And then it gives you a working surface also at table height that you can use. And an easy way to carry away litter without having to stuff trash back into your bags.
Old style panniers like these arkels with outer pockets and a front that zips right open also make access much easier. Add some packing cubes or camera-bag style dividers inside and it would be very easy to find and access everything as long as you always put it back in the right spot.

It’s not a bad idea, the only thing it would need is some way to strap things down or cushion them so that everything in your box isn’t rattling around while you’re riding.
Haven’t seen anyone mention a small trailer. I’ve never tried it but I’ve seen some cool setups that are quite capable in rough terrain.
