Today I was fishing with this big swimbait to see if I could catch a big fish. I tossed it out in a deep area and then I tried a different side and that’s when I hooked something huge. I was snagged. I hooked a big log or something. That’s so bad. I’m so snagged. I tried everything I possibly could to get it off, but it just would not budge. So, I ended up breaking off my swimbait. However, I did have most of my leader, so I just went back inside and I got another swimbait rigged up. This time, a fresh one. I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to catch a nice fish on it. After I tied it on, I tossed it back out in the same spot where I lost the first one. There’s got to be a fish over there. Where there’s structure, there’s fish. And sure enough, I hooked one. This fish immediately started doing circles and getting himself wrapped up in the line. So, he got himself all wrapped up. I’ve caught this before, and I know they have teeth, so I want to get him up on the dock before he cuts my line. So, I gave him a good oldfashioned dock flip, and he went crazy. Luckily, he was barely hooked, so the hook came right out. This is not a fish you want to lip, so you have to grab them in the gill plate. This right here is called a northern pike, and they are super aggressive fish and have super sharp teeth that will cut up your lures. They’re built just like a torpedo.

  1. dont use a clinch knot, they are super weak and will slip before you even pull hard enough to break the line. palomar knots will always break off at the knot because they are the strongest knot.
