Riding this afternoon near Asheville, NC I rode up on a mama bear and her four cubs. The cubs were splashing in a creek and running loops around small trees. I didn’t get too close, but I could hear the cacophony and playful growls. It reminded me of watching my kids. Thanks to anthropomorphism I now know why mama bears are so aggressive. They’re freaking tired! That’s a lot of cubs to take care of all by yourself. Later, a beautiful copperhead was out crossing the road to get a drink from a creek. Not a bad wild animal forest bingo card for the week.
