Hi folks,

I couldn’t find much info on this, but I want to convert my new bike’s one-piece integrated stem and bar cockpit to a two-piece system.

I have two reasons for doing it: (1) I am used to wider bars and the stock ones are too narrow, and (2) I use the Route Werks bag that has all my accessories (bell, light, camera and phone mount).

My plan is to use:

(1) SYNCROS RR 2.0 STEM

(2) Redshift top shelf handlebar with Cruse control drop bar grips

I have never worked with internal routing before, so from what I understand, I will have to cut off and route new shifter cables and hydraulic disk brake lines. I don't see a way to avoid it unless I am missing something. Is that correct?

  1. You’re right, you’ll need to cut the brake hoses. If you’re lucky, there will be enough slack in your existing hoses to make up for the 10-15mm you’ll lose (you need to cut enough hose to include the barb that is pressed or threaded into the hose at the lever end). Otherwise you’ll need to budget for new hoses. In fact, as you’re opting for wider, higher bars, you’ll almost definitely need all new hoses.

Also, does the new stem you intend to use work correctly with the current hose routing and spacer system? Make double sure before you buy.

You will have hose visible where it leaves the bar tape and enters the internal routing. But then you’re putting a bag on there so I guess it doesn’t matter.
