The adventure biking in Peru continues to blow my mind. Feeling pretty lucky. "Rode" from Colcabamba over Punta Union and returned the next day. A lot of pushing and carrying on the ascents and even a decent amount of walk arounds on the descents, but all worth it for the amazing slab riding on both sides of the pass. The West side of the pass had some particularly amazing and unique slab riding. I was able to get off trail and freeride for nearly a half mile or more until I got cliffed out. I had a bit of close call, as failed to recognize some wet algea covered slab and took a good hipper. Walking back to saftey in clipless shoes got a little critical. If it wasn't for the 16k plus altitude I could have explored that area all day linking new lines together. Riding this sort of terrain in a remote and unbelievably gorgeous area is what mountain biking is all about for me. Wish I had more time to spend in this amazing place! Like I said, feeling pretty damn lucky for a washed up old guy that finaly has the scratch to make this sort of trip happen.
