I’d personally rather be on a MTB for singletrack but I’d ride that (pictured) on my gravel bike if it was the only option.

You are doing it right. I was not a fan of single track as I have no MTB background (came from road bike to gravel) and I dreaded these tracks. However, after I started signing up for gravel races, I would find these single tracks on almost all races and I decide to embrace them.

You could do that on a normal road bike.
