Yo! Jared here, I made r/xbiking almost exactly 7 years ago in Sept '18 and continue to mod it. I want to share a very cool bike, trails, and outdoor-rec adjacent personal life update with yinz- I just started a full-time role with Trust for Public Land as a land protection project manager!
The Trust for Public Land is a national conservation organization that is driven to provide high-quality outdoor access to all. We are all about trail interconnectivity and working with recreational user groups- very much including cyclists and bike riders of all sorts. I will be leading our land protection efforts throughout the Mid-Atlantic in PA, NY, NJ, DE and beyond, and I am very excited to identify projects that increase trail interconnectivity and outdoor access for every-body. I have a professional background in real estate and in this new role I am looking for tracts of land to acquire, preserve, and advance the mission of connecting everyone to the outdoors.
This role synthesizes my longstanding love of the outdoors and outdoor rec of all sorts, my deep-rooted care and concern for social and environmental justice, and my professional experience & expertise in real estate. I am so happy and feel so fortunate to be able to blend these aspects of my life in my new role. My day job is now literally geared towards the protection of land, expansion of outdoor access and trail interconnection, and preservation and advancement of social and environmental justice & equity, particularly in the outdoor rec space.
If you are aware of real-world opportunities for land protection that fit the mission sketched above- a piece of land that would connect a critical trail gap, preserve a trail network, safeguard a critical open space area, protect an area of cultural significance- particularly in the Mid-Atlantic- I want to hear from you. Shoot me an email at [jared.abell@tpl.org](mailto:jared.abell@tpl.org) and let’s have a conversation.
Photo from a 45 miler on the beautiful Erie & Ohio Towpath taken last weekend- I was fortunate to attend the Land Trust Alliance National Land Conservation Rally in Cleveland to kick off my first week of work with TPL, and coming off of that experience I'm fired up as ever to get to work.

congrats and all the best to you, cheers from India. 🙂
congrats!
Whoa, that’s so awesome. I work on the housing/mortgage side of real estate. Would love to one day have an opportunity to do something like this.
congratulations.
please do everything in your power to prevent bike access to wilderness designated areas.
aww, I’ve only walked the towpath but that area (specifically the Cuyahoga Valley National Park) is a wonderful example of land preservation.
Congrats and good luck! As someone not from the US, I hope you’ll be successful considering the current political and social climate going on over there.
