Hi everyone,
Starting to get into gravel (coming from MTB) and bought my first gravel bike over the weekend. Was putting my bottle cage on and noticed this mark on the left chain stay.
To my dad and I, this looks like a crack that has been painted over and can tell first hand that it is much deeper than a scratch. What do you all think?
I bought this bike new from a reputable dealer just for clarity sake.

Looks more like they painted over a hair or a bristle. Flex it. Does it expand and contract? A crack in the metal would allow flex and quickly crack the paint
Welder/Frame Builder chiming in: Not a crack, if you are going to see a crack on the chainstay it will likely happen right at the weld by the bottom bracket. Like u/aalex596 mentioned, this is likely just some sloppy paint work.
Looks like paint over some kind of hair or something. Happens constantly when I paint outdoors
If he’s a reputable dealer, then get it refunded. A new bike is a new bike, and should come in pristine condition.
