Hey everyone, I’m considering buying this used Trek Émonda SL 8 and would love your thoughts.

Here’s the info from the seller:

Model: Trek Émonda SL 8
Year: 2016
Groupset: Shimano Dura-Ace
Wheels: new Campagnolo (replaced June 2025 before riding TdF climbs)
Tyres: 28 mm, still in good condition
Service history: regularly serviced by a well-known mechanic, last service June 2025 (chain + wheels replaced)
Mileage: approx. 5000 km per year
Frame condition: a few scratches from transport / an early fall, no structural issues according to seller
Papers: all original receipts and documents included
Asking price: 1250 € (Slovenia)

Reason for sale: seller got a test Merida from Bahrain Vic. team, otherwise would keep it

About me: I’m an amateur rider, started riding more seriously this summer, and I really love climbing.

Pictures attached.

Do you think this is a good deal, given the age (2016) and mileage, or should I negotiate down further?

Thanks!

    Forgot to add:
Frame: 500 Series OCLV carbon, size 54 (M)

Drivetrain: Compact 50/34 crank, 11–34 cassette

  2. As always, it’s only worth what you’ll pay for it. That said I think 1250€ can get you more elsewhere, at least in my market. Unless you particularly like THAT bike I’d pass for more modern build. Disk brakes alone are really nice ironically in the mountains.

  3. Did Dura Ace almost 10 years ago even allow 11-34?

I wouldn’t pay 1250€ for such an old bike with a used drive train. If you want to stay with Dura Ace replacing parts would run you several hundred euros.

You can for example get the Giant DEFY ADVANCED 2 for 1900€ brand new with a 12 speed drive drain and disc brakes from bike24.

Paying 1250€+400€ in new parts for an almost 10 year old bike is quite a bad deal compared to a new bike on sale. Nobody cares what he paid in 2016.
