Any immediate recommendations or best practices to share for a newbie?
Just purchased the new Diverge E5. My son just started riding his bike on his own and I wanted to get something to ride along with him as well as venture out into gravel on my own.
I haven’t owned a bike since I was kid so hopping back on 20 years later – still getting used to all the innovations and upgrades. I literally only have the bike, a helmet, tire pump and multi tool.

  1. sticazzi-ragazzi on

Get a couple of water bottle cages and a top tube bag for snacks (preferably bolt-on since the E5 has bosses for that). As you hopefully get addicted to the joy of riding gravel & start making longer trips, these will be your most valuable kit.

You can fit 2 bottles inside the frame – I like to have a left-sided and right-sided one for easier access. Since one mounts “backwards” on the seat tube, they’ll both open toward same side, & you can flip them according to your dominant hand.

  2. Get a multi tool too, and do not buy anything until you really need it. Bike looks great 👍
(AliExpress has decent bicycle computers and cycling gear)

  3. Always take a photo of your bike drive side out. The bikes get pissed otherwise. And you don’t want to deal with that.
