Coming from road bikes, I hated fixed gears because of the community in my country and the toxicity of promoting brakeless in the sense of all show, no go.
I'm not proud of the frame. It's XAM, a chinese brand that sells kiddie bikes (i bought it because I like the looks) and it might be a part holder until i wreck this frame.
built my own wheels and sourced parts carefully, albeit cheap and some generic ones. total build cost is around $210.
used disc brake because I'm a beginner, dont want the silver aluminum rim brake track, and believe I can ride faster if I can brake faster. Still training my legs for backpedalling and skids, but fixed gear is actually a lot of fun than I thought!
TLDR: I think I just fell in love with fixed gears

Ditch the brake, mate.
The brake is uggo
I rock the same brake setup, it’s great don’t listen to the haters.
Welcome! I ride with a front brake too. 100% agree that being able to stop allows me ride faster and harder. Love your build. Sick bike!
Don’t listen to anyone. I’ve been riding front brakes on fixed for almost 20 years. The amount of times it’s saved my ass is worth whatever badgering someone else wants to give me about aesthetics.
for what it’s worth, i think disc brakes on fixed gears look sick 🤷♂️
The only issue I see with the front brake is that it being disc you could be more prone going over the bars. There is a superiority in braking when it’s a disc instead of rim brake imo
