I’ve been jumping for 8 months now, and I just can’t seem to unlock it, I’m inconsistent and rely on speed, I struggle to fully extend as my rear wheel is at the lip, I don’t pop as much as I’d like too. Here’s a video with multiple jumps and slow mo’s (I’m in the grey)

Any help and pointers will be appreciated, I’ve had multiple coach sessions but can’t unlock the “legs extended to get pop”

  1. the shred academy has a video about jumping correctly, there is a drill he shows in part 2 that helped me with the same issue you have. You do the motion of preload, going straight down, on the transition start, go straight back with your hip, and accept the transition, the you push yourself up, slightly over the center. I did this motion slowly quite a few times on the flat, then as he did on a mellow ramp and added speed as i felt comfortable.

When you do this a few times, it suddenly clicked for me and you get a pop feeling even on slower speeds as you feel your bike and you are in control, not the bike over you.

I know, its going back to the basics, but very important for steeper ramps and jumps with gaps, speed might clear it but maybe it won’t feel safe/fun.

I learned jumping with “standing up to the jump”, but it’s only one part of the mechanic. That whole preloading / dropped heels is the thing that makes you pop as your rear wheel is staying in contact all the way to the end of the lip. Full suspension eats so much energy if one thing is off.
