I have a regular ortlieb quick rack that I’ve used with ortlieb roller panniers and it’s worked great for that. However I have a bikepacking trip coming up and was told that panniers wouldn’t be optimal for singletrack narrow sections. You can see a part of the platform is directly under my saddle, yet this is level. Would I be better off finding a different rack so that I can put a dry bag on top without it being compressed because of it touching the saddle?

I would think any rack is going to have the same issue since they are centered over the wheel. Your seat position and spacing look very friendly toward a saddle bag. I use a Topeak saddle bag that is lightweight and stable on the singletrack. Less capacity than a rack, but otherwise works well.

  2. The thru axle adaptor would lower the rack and push it back a bit. Also more secure/stable. Judging by the look of your tires, you might have to switch to the Quick Rack L though. The regular I believe is capped to 30mm tires when mounted to thru axel. L is said to be out 50mm but can accommodate wider. I have 56mm without issue

  3. Dry bags are pretty much designed to be compressed. As you don’t have a dropper post, I really wouldn’t worry about squeezing one under your saddle.

  4. It’ll be fine. Just put soft items in the dry bag and jam it under the seat. You could even clip the dry bag roll top around your seat post.
