This weekend we are in Malta!

[Music] welcome to Malta a true jewel in the heart of the Mediterranean halfway between Europe and Africa it’s a cultural melting pot and for this weekend it is the focus of the triathlon world for round two of super league triathlon another chance for the world’s best triathletes to do battle after what was absolute carnage on the streets of Jersey there is no market is simply too dangerous Jersey in the English Channel a beautiful island Haven but when it blows it blows the teeth of an Atlantic storm bit hard on the world’s toughest athletes in round one of super league triathlon but it takes more than that to stop them the gals in the rain own comforts for some the French thriving in their own backyard Cassandra beau grant one of the stars of super league has the sport at her feet and in Jersey the wind at her back she has just had a great weekend and there is the smile she’s been the top 3 in every 200 she won the inter on Singapore was changed to an awkward on here and it’s made no difference in Cassandra boat rod has picked up $20,000 and is your new women’s championship leader and Vincent Lewis Super League and now world champion unbeatable come rain or shine he played his Joker card right at the dare and that short shoot is going to prove decisive which is exactly what we wanted when we came up with the innovation and he’s got to take it short shoot has one upper berth so Lewis he has been pushed all the way by PL a club a buzz on Lewis he won the peak all the way through last year and he’s gonna take it straight into Malta two out of two for France as we now hits out in search of some goosebumps from that but I can tell you that’s all history now is time for round two and we do it here in lovely Malta the sun is shining we’re expecting fantastic conditions and we’re back once again a big crowd expected on the harbor at burgoo and Borla and a long side meet for this little ride and we’re looking forward to it very much is four-time world champion Chris mcCormick one of the founders of super league triathlon you’re always beside me for every single one of these but it’s so good to be back once again Moulton really turning it on and it’s great to be back at the Sun after what we experienced in Jersey but i this is such a fantastic course I know it’s one of the favorite destinations for a lot of the athletes racing I know it is for the entire super league team it’s a it’s a testing course in this week’s equalizer formats gonna sort a lot of the athletes out we talked about the weather and it’s lovely for us to be out here in the Sun but it really affects the athletes especially some of the smaller athletes as well the less your body fat percentage the colder you get we were both fine because of that exact reason but here’s a shot for example of Cassandra Berggren getting the pink and then immediately that’s our pink leader’s jersey immediately needing to get the the jacket straight after it was really tough out there jersey turned out it made it look like it wasn’t as hard as it was it really was this year’s getting the jacket but it was really hard and without question we lost Tyler mr. Chuck in in the men’s race he really really struggled in those cold conditions and here in Malta he’s gonna really revel in in these in his heat I think it it changes the game I think coming out of Jersey there was a lot of discussion around athletes positions and what that’s going to the effect that’s going to have on the overall series but I think coming in here so we can do love the athletes during the week they’re excited to race side the sun’s out and it’s another opportunity to score valuable championship points if you’re just tuning in and you get you think you’ve got an idea of what triathlon is all about super league is nothing like that so here’s a little look visually of what super league is about we have an eighth round series we’re gonna have a break for the Olympic Games just a small secondary competition they have in July over in Tokyo and then we come back for a host of rounds in autumn next year so Jersey is runt one and done the championship points are on super league triathlon calm we’ll see them in just a second as well we are here in Malta and then we take about seven months off to recover and we come back next year but it’s our biggest championship series yet it’s very exciting and as you said the Olympic Games is something we’re very excited for for the athletes it was a discussion we had with them about how we could fit the series in this year in an Olympic year and continue to do what we’re doing as a sport and you know we’re excited to see how that goes down I’m pretty confident one of other cadiz of ferris or Vincent lui or son or one of the athletes at the super league who is going to capture an Olympic gold medal and come that five race series all Olympic bets are off no one cares after that it’s all about chasing the championship points and the overall championship money yeah Vincent Lewis and Katie’s a fierce were absolutely unstoppable all throughout last year they wore the pink jersey all the way through and they were also unstoppable here in Mulder it’s a very very tough course it sorts the best from the rest and Katie’s a fierce she was amazing up what we’re calling mount molteau behind her summer Rappaport and Kirsten Casper Rappaport’s back this this time but Casper isn’t but they could not stop Katie severus this course is built for Katie’s of Ferris and I think there’s a closeness she’s ever been pushed in the super league racing on-screen we remember richard Murray who took out Vincent lui last year for the first time in Vincents defeat over the over the over the super league series and he did that with a massive transition he did indeed and the second day though it was all about Henry squirming who was in the blue swimmers Jersey and Vincent Louis’s famous kick and he let that go about 300 meters from the end and absolutely could not be stopped and we probably going to see a bit more of the same today somewhere without question and the television doesn’t do it justice that is a very very steep uphill finish and and you really need to time your kick and that’s what Katie wanted with last year’s or summer Rappaport try to make a move was probably a little bit early Katie was able to come out of the top and use the hill perfectly Vincent Louise got that down it’s gonna be very exciting this year there are plenty of challenges all throughout the fields not too long now until the women’s semi final we have two different heats if you like separated by a slot draw we have the other day and in one of them is the British connection Olivia Matthias and Sophie Cole well and I caught up with them earlier in the week [Music] [Applause] [Music] Sophie Olivia welcome to Malta and you ground for both of you guys only been here for a little while what do you think sorry beige it is a little beige dry dry it’s been three weeks since we nearly got blown off the Rhode Island of Jersey seventh and eighth overall in the championship what are your learnings from Jersey let’s start with you Olivia because was your first Super League experience what did you learn there and that you’ll bring into Malta I think that thinking on the spot is really important like for example people are running without shoes on and I nearly got eliminated in the first elimination because everyone just round through about shoes and outside oh my gosh so then for the last one I put my shoes over the mat line and put them on after just 20 sure and I was surprised she discussed that before it I was like no and if I’m not excited to think of it and I’m surprised I thought about it what happened and it’s 400 maybe I should take these of me well smart because it was only you and three-time world champion Mario mola who actually came up with that idea yeah yeah well you should take a confidence boost because you’re the highest ranked qualifier there is at this point everyone else was contracted athletes or wild cards above you so did you expect to come out of it with a decent point Hall in 8th position so my plan was to make it so final just try not get eliminated money and I can definitely buy a new coat you need one well actually before I came here I put a coat rail yeah ok just so put all the coats on Iko trial for two coats yeah you know glad to see you’re really buying into the sl2 thing just not just trying to drain us out of all the money that we’ve got but you’ve been handing out advice you should probably stop now because you’re only one spot ahead yeah a woman surprised me so but I think that’s wise that’s actually a good thing you know we trained to go after a muffler for what for five years now so yeah it’s great that actually now we’re close and actually can push each other in train and Wharf so I think it’s a I think is a good thing that we’re actually close to them when you were younger and we were further apart have you had a look at Super League from Moltar 2018 and what happened then yeah it looks really hard so you had a few other guys it’s learn about you know kind of how it is and then yes they’re fully prepared you’ve done some more health and stuff back at home so yeah it’s not like we’re a bit more prepared to then you know kind of like blindly wandering into a hilly hilly race so yeah but excited after Jersey I was thinking how are we gonna do that again in three weeks time but here we are saying we’ll tell you the whole story on Sunday nights once I’m in my blue jersey that’s something I want to keep the white one forever can we I don’t think we can do that eventually people younger than you because they do exist will grow up enough and finish school yellow is not really for us really don’t well there’s plenty of other colors there’s pink pink would be red there’s green what eventually you’re gonna not gonna be a young athlete anymore yeah I’m sorry about that but eventually we get all yeah one day you will be the same age as me in about 20 years nice thanks very much for your time such a lovely chat with those two but we do have some breaking news Olivia Matthias has had two this morning pull out so bad news for the British fans out there she’s got a high fever and he’s not up to racing today so that’s unfortunate for at the placed contender that’s a big loss to the field I was expecting really big things out of live she just seemed in a really good headspace all week and when the news came through this morning I I was devastated for the field I really expected her to do very very well on this course she she took a lot out of Jersey and you see by the two of those athletes they feed off each others energy and I I think Sophie may may miss her in the event as well I hope so while we hope to see Sophie Cole will do very well in the blue swimmers jersey the semi-final for the women the first one is gonna be underway in about all let’s see 10 minutes so here’s a little explainer about the format the semi-finals from a mass star athletes face at 300 meter swim 4 kilometer bike and a 1.6 kilometer run twice two consecutive triathlons at full speed no brakes and no room for conservation the semi-final format is a true examination of pace and precision with spots in Sunday’s final of water to those who can withstand the pressure it is a tough format but all of the format’s here in super league triathlon are very very tough and a top 15 from both the men’s and the women’s will progress into tomorrow’s final and that is where the money and more importantly the championship points one now we mentioned just before Olivia Mathias that’s terrible news for her but she’s not the only out this all not the only in as well we’ve got plenty of movement Lisa Potter from Austria who hasn’t raced in super league before she’s been here all week she’s had to pull out with a little bit of bone stress in the tibia but she has a history of that matter it was the same injury that put her out of the the Rio Olympic Games had problems with that with the tibia and a foot in her leg and our physiotherapists had a good look at it advised her to potentially consider not starting she took that advice I think it’s great advice she has focus on Tokyo so we’ll see you in the next round another little incident we had yesterday just at the course Ricky actually as the athletes were having a look at the course for the first time Hayden Wilde who is very much a championship contender who’s sitting in the top three in our championship found a little bit of the tarmac at the bottom of Mountain Malta he got seven stitches in his cheek you can see there that’s where his sunglasses he was wearing dug in to his cheek actually it was his partner sunglasses which he destroyed he will take part though he lost plenty of bark he had to go to hospital but he is going to be ok there are some great juniors in as well in the Junior the Duke racing this morning is magnificent and they’re they’re the athletes that have moved up into this Championship semi-final so we saw that in the men’s series last year last month in Jersey and we’ve seen those athletes come across and now the Italians and the Irish and the female side have really pushed up into the semi-final they are all going to be in Group B Cassandra Burke Ryan is the one they’re all chasing group ace you’ll be on the outside pontoon position we’re gonna have a look at B now I think as well and you can see the names there at the bottom Aaron McConnell Becca cerini and Beatrice millat see they’re all juniors who have come in as qualifiers but they will be chasing Katie Zafira sue as we said is very much the one to beat here in Malta but she is not wearing the pink which is very very different Katie’s a ferris is one of the great competitors there is absolutely no doubt let’s have a little bit of a chat to her right now and see how she’s feeling ahead of this one here in Malta [Music] [Applause] yeah I’m feeling good between Jersey and Malta I had a little bit of a mini mini training camp which is good to have just the stimulus of a bit of training partners so I actually feel bit better coming into this race than I did going into Jersey which is kind of good I do like the tough courses and I think Malta is a super tough course with that Hill and not just having the bike up it but also run up it finish up it so something I learned last year is how fast people can run down it um but it’s something that I’m aware of for this year and I think I’m more ready it’s crazy because Cassandra is quite young so she’s just gonna get better over over the years and I think is she the scary thing about when people gain confidence is that it helps them and they go into races just knowing how dominant they can be so I think that’s just going to help Cassandra continue to continue to be consistently at the top [Music] post a good time and to survive and try also to keep the legs at least a little bit good for tomorrow the semi-finals from a master athletes face at 300 meters swim for kilometer bike and a 1.6 kilometer run twice two consecutive triathlons at full speed no brakes and no room for conservation the semi-final format is a true examination of pace and precision with spots in Sunday’s final awarded to those who can withstand the pressure and there will be plenty of pressure as well looks calm right now maca doesn’t it but it’s not going to be in about five minutes as they are warming up down on the pontoon and getting ready to do this once again we’re gonna head down now to Joanne Kia who is going to be bringing us all the news from down where the accidents happening yes the women are out nine of the best women in the world over swim bike run here but only five guaranteed spots going through to tomorrow and then of course the next fastest times five over the two semi finals Cassandra Berger on defending the pink jersey how do you enjoy being the series later defending that jersey I can’t wait to do the race and I hope I will keep my job and you’ve never raced in Malta before how do you feel about those hells it’s noise Institue and it will be incredible and just alongside you leone pareo a lot of French pressure this week after the wins injured right lots of French pressure they did so well last time in Jersey well as I mentioned five across the line first will qualify then there will be the next five fastest over the two semi finals 15 in total go through and of course that race for the short chute that goes to the winner let’s let them get on with it yeah there is plenty on offer thanks very much Joe great access to our French Connection right there on the outside of the pontoon and here is the course overview as it stands from that which is gonna be a little bit of a slant to it you can see it’s about 120 meters out to the first point another turn into home as well it’s a little bit sharper the turn that it looks like there on the map and the black of the road courses are both the same where you can see on the left of screen the trick st. Lawrence that is Mountain Malta heading up towards what will be the finishing line when they come through the short chute it’s the very top of your screen right there as well but we’ll get to all of that in just a second a bit of an explanation as to the colored jerseys wearing the pink cassandra bow grin as we know she’s our championship leader the green blue and red are our swim bike and run leaders from Jersey and we we have some money on the line for that as well we have white for the youngest athlete in the field on the left of your screen there as well there is the pontoon and we’re getting set for professional racing for the first time here in Malta across the course of the weekend we’ve had youth we’ve had juniors we had corporate team enduro and now it’s time for the pros and they’re in and a very solid start from everyone on the inside is cassandra bo grant someone’s going sorry oh yeah and conservator by grant again very very quick off off the pontoon that’s what we saw in Jersey it set up a race to take out Katie’s affairs remember this is about semifinal racing it’s about getting in that top five to secure the spot but the fastest times matter here with the equaliser format tomorrow it’s the times that will determine where your TT position on that bike happens which is very very important for all the athletes so where’s my right there is Yuko Takahashi’s having a fantastic swim coming across to the boy ahead off Cassandra bar grant very good swim but they both booked ended the the pontoon so it’s at UK Tech a she was in spot number one with Wickham Cassandra and spot number nine so it shows those outside lines with a bit of clear water in the siding with definitely quicker also in this semi-final felicity GT Ryan of Australia Megan Foley of the US as is summer Rappaport as well so a couple of Americans there Angie Olmo who comes into super league for the first time Elena dent alone of River Russia Claude ISA man of Canada and we mentioned pareo and beau grand pareo taking a little bit of a left-hand turn there but right at the front and fairway out the front is Yuko takahashi and cassandra bo grant from the chasing pack but neither of them content to get on the others hip if you like there’s a last little gap between them you wouldn’t see that in the men’s racing they’ll be right on top of each other and that probably while they’re moving a little bit quicker and you saw as they came off that first swim boy there was the athletes back in that group that got inhibited as they went around the boy and Cassandra and Yuko were able to get that clear water and open that gap which is now gonna be difficult for the athletes behind that closed down quickly that they’re moving quicker as it is up front so once you get that gap it’s much harder to close it if unless you can get that that disrupted water on the feet of the athlete in front so our fantastic start from takahashi behind their ice a summer Rappaport followed by Claude ISA marred one of our junior athletes but Takahashi finished 14th in Jersey which is a little bit disappointing for her still got the great jersey for the fastest transition that’s the color she’s wearing but she went on to win the Japanese national championships in between Jersey and here so she’s had some racing and some good racing as well as Rappaport looks to push up onto the feet of beau grande don’t forget there is a short shoot available for the winner of each of the semi finals and that is a shortcut that can be taken on the run tomorrow on any of the runs but we give you because it’s uphill about five seconds I would say a little bit more than what they gave in Jersey is they turn at the second boy and head for home it’s Cassandra beau grant Takahashi and summer Rappaport your top three with a little of a gap back to saman and the chasing pack but already summer summers have a fantastic back end of that swim she’s moved to the left of Cassandra I got a bit of clear water but was able to close that gap this was her best course here last year I think she’s one to really look for in this race for this rep this round I think she’s an under under expected champion of this style of racing she’s very very strong on the run and swim spectacular and this course will suit her a lot if she has any difficulties is in it’s in the technicalities of some of these bike courses this course not as technical as the others the right-hander at the bottom of the descent may cause her a couple of problems but I expect to see big things for swallow summer this weekend all right swims we’re expecting about a 315 swim and that’s exactly what we’re gonna get it looks like so the pace reasonably art on here despite the fact that there’s only nine in the field and it’s beau gran who’s gonna lead out just well not even from Takahashi who’s had a great swim and in fact he’s gonna come out of the water first cross the timing mats and pick up some valuable points for the blue jersey race coming out from there is some I can see sheathing Ryan has had a good swim alongside Megan Foley out of the water but at the front takahashi who has the fastest transition let’s have a look at it right now she’s out get much quicker than that great transition by summer and there’s angioma from idiot yeah NGO who’s expecting big things it’s a first it’s a first venture into super league racing she’s been at all of her events to support her partner in Leo burrs yeah she’s a fantastic athlete and excited to be racing and I think we’ll see her in the final so I’m Elena Donal over is the last of our athletes through Leone pareo had a bit of trouble there but has had a good transition and taken over Felicity she D Ryan and actually came out of the water a little way ahead so I’m not sure what’s happened to shitty Ryan in transition but your top five Takahashi Rappaport bo grant Simard and Almo and Claudie Simard who was eliminated first in fact in the second transition when we had live eliminations in jersey has had a great start sitting in fourth so what they’re thinking now is okay I need to get through this races as easy as I possibly can so I need to really monitor my my my output but I need to make sure the time is quick enough because if we could cruise too much then I have a really poor selection off the fastest times on where I start in tomorrow’s time trial and the equalizer format so that’s very very important Rappaport pushing a very big gear up that hill and it’s her tour as well she came out she was at the bottom of the hill in second position and you can see how much she’s dropped now at attacker hoshi and bo crying she was pushing a little bit of a big gear there she’s the bikes probably not her strength necessarily especially on technical courses but this is more of a power course and we know that she’s a very powerful athlete as Samar just tacks on to the back of Rappaport in third and fourth I have a little discussion as I head down the descent from Mount Malta for the first time there is Rappaport tucking her frame in one of the taller athletes and behind her some art so it’s 2 & 2 as they head on the first lap of the bike but Takahashi and Bo Grandpa France smart athletic happy to sit in at this point there’s big gaps already back and don’t forget the fifth placed athlete will automatically qualify too so we’ve got two groups of two at the moment and there they’re technically all safe and I was watching summer they’re worth he’s expecting some are reported to struggle a little bit on this bike course was on that right here turn off that descent it’s probably the best I’ve ever seen a go-around that should be very very strong along this flat section but 100% she’s a little bit over geared coming in and out of those turns maybe she’s just front trying to find find her way on the bike at the moment sometimes as you come into a into a race you find your way as the race unfolds but she’s got good company there and that there is safe and those four it’s what’s happening in five or six that you’re gonna see but I really expect Felicity Sheedy Ryan who’s a magnificent runner at duathlon world champion his first run after this bike is a little longer than the second run because we come back down to the to the swim transition it’s about two kilometers she’ll be able to use her run strength to move up because she’s going to need to in order to secure a spot in the final so four lamps on the bike two lamps on the run but don’t forget it’s a swim bike run swim bike run so we are only into the second of six legs with that five transition so there’s plenty of racing to be done the ninety second rule is in effect so for more than 90 seconds behind the leaders through any transition and you will be gone at the end of any lap and almost wrapping up at Leone pareo up the hill with Meghan follow behind them and that’s your fifth through seventh place things with Donal over and she tear I need to do some work we’ll get some splits as soon as we possibly can up on the screen that’s a good group of three that that Meghan Foley’s in with Leona Perry on Angelo Mo there there were a group of three good bike riders they’re closing in on summer Rappaport who’s a little bit technically those who stood on this descent I think they’ll come together Yuko Takahashi’s here last year was was magnificent on this course she likes it at she’s able to use a great power-to-weight ratio up that climb I think she likes the technicality his smaller frame gets through these corners and she’ll be very very difficult to move through on because it’s very difficult to close in on the gaps especially with her technical skills on a bike attack AHA she actually holds the second fastest swim in malta ever which is a 307 and the only person has a quicker swim than Takahashi here in Malta is Tyler Spivey and we’ll see her in the second semi-final of course Cassandra bo grant was not here last year along with Sophie Cantwell and Olivia Mathias who are all great swimmers Mathias obviously not racing this weekend but she is here as Bo grant takes her turn in the lead we’re about eight minutes into the first semi-final and there is daylight between the lead pair and the chasing pack and spread out quite a bit and we’re going to see some 90 second eliminations you would think if this pace keeps up and that’s going to make things interesting come finals time because at 90 seconds people start to get eliminated we have we have the five five fastest times to get through to the final so as people are eliminated that opens up final be the opportunity for for them to qualify through so up the hill for the second time they come bo grant and Takahashi just sharing a lead and they’re already starting to think about what they need to do for tomorrow of course when it comes down to it the short shoot is in effect the other thing we should mention maka is that depending on finishing order in times across the two semi finals that is the the higher up you finish the better choice you get of your positions in the black individual time trial tomorrow so there’s plenty on the line for these guys in terms of positioning and timing of course these guys don’t know whether they’re in a fast semi-final or or not they’re feeling it through at the moment they don’t know how fast the second semi is going to be but because the black individual time trial takes place ten minutes before they’re racing the championship racing tomorrow having that extra forty fifty seconds rest two minutes rest depending on when you can choose to take off in the time trial could prove crucial well I think that’s that’s the critical thing they need to be racing for as you said it when you’ve got ten minutes rest between when the last person crosses the line tomorrow half to the individual time trial you have to get your transition ready you have to be get back down to the bottom which is a good two or three minutes walk you want that little bit of extra time time is everything come finals time I guess and you know if you’re the fastest of the groups you get to select where you want to go and I think you’ll see those athletes pick that first group of eight that go off at the time trial tomorrow nice little group coming together there in Leone pareo Angelica Romo and summer wrap aboard who’s been caught and dropped down to fifth we know she’s got a very very strong run though and speaking of strong runs the numbers say as I’m getting dated messages from a data analyst Graeme Atchison who will speak to a little bit later on Cassandra Burke Ryan if she wants to could put 20 seconds on takahashi in a run because Yuko Takahashi’s runs not a strong suit we know how good cassandra by grant is on the run so she might just be sitting in there going at what point do i attack yeah I agree I think we all know Cassandra’s so powerful on the run it’s a strength she’s our pink jersey she’s magnificent it at this multi-discipline racing that being said I think Yuko Takahashi of all the courses we have in Super League racin she really shot here in Malta last year that’s where she really came on I thought as an athlete I think she likes the course she likes a technicality of this course and it’s an uphill finish so speed speedy relevant in an uphill finish it’s all about strength you know it’s about the ability to time that that effort and we saw Katie sephorus do that magnificently last year and we saw Vincent lui do it again and Cassandra has not raced on this course so if there’s anything moving in UK as well in the Gozo case the data of Graham it’s it’s it’s the fact that Cassandra hasn’t been on this course and we’ve never seen to have to sprint an uphill battle that’s right as all as plenty of are new things involved in in Malta here this is a unique course and I have to say Leonie pareo who came out of the water in 9th position has moved away up to third and there’s big gaps that she’s had to cross Felicity she D Ryan has overtaken Elena dental over in that eighth and ninth position we’ll try and get some splits for you as soon as possible but at the front and coming off the bike into transition onto the first of two rounds is Takahashi and Beau Graham and I think the advantages at this end of the transition area through if you flash back to last year went richard murray was out of transition was able to take out Vincent lui he was down the center the transition area to see there Yuko Takashi despite having to run further was able to get quicker mo grant in second position and will throw down now to Joanne Kia who is at transition how’s it looking in transition and of course she came in and out of his supercar and it will now be a question of Panna she holds on and maintain that with Cassandra are hot on house and she goes she’s certainly putting the strides in in the opening part of the run they’re gonna turn at the bottom of the course and head up Mount Malta in just a second we’ll see what that strength is in terms of what Cassandra program can do because she sunk so fast on a flat and technical course we saw that in Jersey and I figure that she’s gonna be quick no matter what you throw at her because she’s of such quality Cassandra beau grant won by eight seconds back in Jersey she had the quickest run she’s wearing the pink she also had the quickest run but that Jersey rolls down to County Surfaris and already she just pushes up alongside she looks like she’s doing it nice and easy to control their effort they’re very much in control out in front they know that as tomorrow’s the final staff tomorrow’s what matters they need to control that they’re not going to be eliminated from here they’re the – Beth – two best swimmers after this run this is a little bit longer this run the finish line is they’re going to pass the finish line up here this is where the second run will finish but in this next run it’s about two kilometers per serve to get back down to the bottom they look very very controlled and and they won’t be pressured from here at all heading up towards the finishing line Ariel they’ll take a left-hand turn and up to the highest point of the course in just a second that’s where the short chute will be for tomorrow and that is what these two are aiming for at this point it’s about a hundred and fifty meters I’ve run up to the top of the hill before they turn and head down to home so Angelica Romo is now taking the lead in that group that are chasing from the only period somebody Rappaport and then Megan Foley Angelica Almo Claudia Samaras dropped back to seventh the head of shitty Ryan and Elaine and down all over you can see on the left-hand side of your screen as they head down the hill for the first time and already after putting in the work on the bike heading down the hill very very tough on the joints yeah the only parry out there coming up the hill while the other two go down with some rapport they’re in control someone switched off there she’s very very fluent in the run and is opting just to sit back and get through this semi-final as as easy as she possibly can angioma on screen you’re sitting in fifth that’s the safe position to be so the athletes behind Angie oh my were the ones they’ll be king off angie saying i need to get into that position to secure that fifth guaranteed slot to the final Claudie Simard at the back of the pack and those guys will be very much aware of the 92nd rule of course we’re only into the first of two swim bike runs for thus afternoon’s semi-final a will hit stranding the semi-final B in just a second and there go your leaders who have been stacked together like glue across the course of the last 15 minutes or so beautiful pictures here in Malta in the heart of boo goo and born which is part of the old town of Malta not far from the letter which is one of the most picturesque spathes of this beautiful island and we’ve certainly enjoyed our time here the athletes getting to see plenty of Malta before the racing begins and as we expected Cassandra Burke Ryan is out front but Yuko Takahashi is hanging on I think a sand resist in second gear they have the opportunity here to continue the squeeze her face and potentially eliminate some of the other women in 90 seconds but I think they realized what’s happening here is a race for the well I know Yuko be thinking this is a race for the short shoot we saw Cassandra bo grant win the short shoot by winning the semi-final in Jersey she opted not to take the short shoot the final she was that comfortable yeah but there’s a five-second penalty for was that who was that ballistic she’d mind that was Leone peridot also to serve the penalty is Angelica Alma on both for heading over the dismount line okay that was a stop down by our race referee I wouldn’t say that was five seconds but it was a stop down to stop down she’s fallen straight back around summer Rappaport Leone looks a lot better we saw her get taken out in Jersey in that crash and she chased all the way in 70 finals missed that final she was devastated about that newsies redemption here this weekend and she looks magnificent she was just alienated a little bit of a swim otherwise I think she’d be sitting quite comfortably with the front two as Cassandra starts to squeeze a little bit to get a little gap on you guys looking supremely confident is Cassandra vagrant and counties Affairs will be looking at this where she’s warming up and just having a little look at what her title rival he’s doing at the moment as will Rachel clamor who’s also going to be in semi-final B and Bo grind just puts on a little bit a second time up the hill and puts him out six or seven seconds into Yuko Takahashi’s ahead of Rappaport pareo publicity she tee Ryan who’s moved to the front of that group Angelica Almo had to serve that penalty as well off screen she is still in six from Donnell over Foley and Claudie Simard who’s dropped from fourth to about ball to the back of the pack so Felicity rides the big mover she came in a both night off that bike and she’s such a big runner she could do Athlon world champion which is a the discipline has no swimming it’s run its run bike world title she’s won that and she’s the second swim was where she was very very weak in this super league racing so she needs to get that margin of error and she needs to use his longer middle run to cut to get as much margin of error on Angie on the others pareo and Rappaport in third and fourth so as it has been two groups of two as quite early in the end of the run you can see on the left hand side of your screen there the pink cap was going on for the second swim for Cassandra by grants Oh she’ll something a little bit unique to super league run the last 800 meters or kilometer or so with the cap and goggles on without question it surprised by summer and I’ve been talking about her a lot on the coverage I thought she would be interested in grabbing that short chute she was right there in the swim she’s a little bit of a gap open and there’s Felicity she D Ryan on on screaming she led a little bit of gap open and she’s not chasing to close that down because that short shoot advantage in this final especially over Katie’s a Faris and and Cassandra Bogart could be the difference of winning this race we saw how close she came last year to winning it alright so after a couple of times after up mount malta don’t forget you have to do a whole other triathlon and bow grant and takahashi are ready for that the caps are going on at the back of your screen till the only perio and summer Rappaport as well I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to put a swim cap on while you’re running not easy but they make it look easy this is all stuff that Super League triathletes have to practice and it refines that transition speed all about seconds reserved in Super League racing when you when you’re looking at 90 second elimination when it’s two or three seconds between making a final I’m not making a final every second you save counts back into the water goes Cassandra bo grant off with the shoes spoke to Hayden wild yesterday he was famous in jersey for taking his shoes off whilst running the last 50 meters said I’m gonna do that again it definitely worked last time back into the water they go go grant now we’ll have a nice little buffer on takahashi and we know how good of a swimmer she is she got some water in the gobbles there though so that slows it down a little bit Takahashi great great transition Marco Takeshi straight on to Cassandra’s feet that gap it opened up just at the end of that run and she’s able to close that we saw how good she was to this first boy off the start of the first swim and I think she’ll get on the Atlantic pari on third summer Rappaport in fourth they’re gonna drop her board into the water heartening for all those age groupers and amateur triathletes out there that even the very best sometimes get water in the gobbles on a dive without question I think you think the only parry I’ll be very very happy that she’s been able to put some Rappaport behind at the end of that run some is probably a better swimmer than Leone she’s gonna have to move faster by this first swim boy and Leone will be able to get the feet of summer if anyone’s gonna move up on Yuko Takahashi’s be some around the port she’s such a magnificent swimmer but she has to get around the only so well done by Lani para very well thought out félicité shitty Ryan I expect to see despite going in fifth will be the biggest loser from this swim she’s not renowned for swimming and behind there is some solid swimmers that need to get past Felicity as they get out of this swim you know you can see ramport imperio shoulder-to-shoulder as they head to the first turn boys just a reminder that the top five will automatically qualify for tomorrow’s final and that is where all the championship points and all of the money is decided as Claudie somalis that last into the water just to the right hand side there you can see Marquez big boat let’s just drove it in here this morning dropped anchor and straight into the commentary box there is beau grant and Takahashi and the two of them behind are still inseparable no unwilling to take the lead and get on the feet of the other one that’s my ground just nice as easy as you like just controlling the pace of this race five goes through automatically and then five from semi-final B and then the next five fastest will also make up the 15 so if you’re sitting on the bubble here in 56 or seventh position you know that you need to either sum up that fifth spot or just sit and hope and athletes like NGO Mon Elena Dental / Megan Foley they want to hope that they’re in a fast heat yes any final beam they know they’ll know what time times are so they’ll check the watch or however they want to pace themselves and know what they need to do to get in so an advantage there and what they’re looking at too is is position number five at the top of the screen that’s Felicity’s she D Ryan she’s not there’s a very different position for her being as a weakest swimmer usually in the math starts you’re having a lot of people to follow now suddenly you have to find your own way you’re looking up she’s not gonna be as quick at this and the group behind in angio mow and Donnell over and Meghan Foley will be closing in on her they need to move up on Flik because she is the danger runner of that group and if she get out of this water in that position that’s where she’s been vulnerable in the past she’s not renowned for her technical bike skills either but she can survive a course like this in a shootout on the ranch sugar she’ll get through into that fist spot yeah she tier on very impressive in that’s in that first run and you’d expect her to put together another big one she was eliminated second in her opening semi-final in Jersey so she’s further into the racing than she was last time she was eliminated in in t2 in fact thanks to a very slow bike ride compared to everybody else she was a qualifier from Bali and as you said two-time world Duathlon champion she raised the knee 70.3 world champs just a couple of months ago so coming back to this shorter distance and certainly getting the hang of it a bit in Malta as appeared to Jersey and she’s got a spot in the semi-final on the line if she can indeed hold on to fifth position from Angelica Olmo who is coming off the back of her first World Cup win and New Plymouth this year great swim by Yuka yeah that was late swim it was probably seven seconds at the point that Bob ran hit the water before Takahashi transitioned but a combination of just that little error it’s a little Sondra chelli little class go oh wow I didn’t think you’re so close but just a fantastic swimmer get rid of you yeah sama Rappaport move past Leona transition in the lead to takahashi right behind is bo grant and they have been inseparable over the last 23 minutes onto the bike four laps for the second time and here are your third and fourth-place summer wrap importantly only Parian if they can maintain the gap they will both qualify for tomorrow’s final pareo one foot one shoe on once you are interesting that’s an interesting way to do it and felicity shitty rides held on in that swim so that’s a kryptonite is swimming and it’s a stay in fifth spot now she come out with a lot of confidence this is the guaranteed slot to the final so she needs to hold this position and keep Angie arm Island and dental over and Megan Foley at bay this will be a huge boost for Felicity Judy Ryan after having a disappointing outing in Jersey there is all moan of the water the Italian descent first taste of super league racing for Angie amo and Elena dental over behind her now Lena dental over another one who didn’t race in Jersey so opening her account in Super League for 2019 she has been here before though as has Meghan Foley and probably forced to run around dental over and when you look at the transitions we’ve just seen against the transition of takahashi you can see why Takahashi is renowned as a transition er she’s wearing that great jersey for reason she’s magnificent in transition she was she moved up ah Cassandra out of the swim and was 10 to 4 10 to 15 meters in front of her out of transition be hard to bet against my grand no to take the short chute for this one well she didn’t even take the actual short chute when she need to take the jersey so if she’s not going to take it then hand it off to UK tech hasshu earth I think would thank her a lot for that opportunity because this short shoot in Malta is going to be very very important it’s at the position at the top of the hill and I’ll point it out and scream when we get to that position on the bike and as the athletes on the run sorry it’s a rope but the first time for the weekend that we see the yellow flag Michael Thompson race director showing Claudia Samantha yellow flag and she’s our first to be eliminated and she’s in danger of not getting through now to the final of that there is no doubt she cannot make the fire she is out of the final she’s not gonna post the finishing time she will not make the final unless there’s some kind of Bingle on the bike or something in the other semi-final at autism arts weekend is most likely over here you’re right if there’s a if there’s a problem that goes back on count back of times she’s which is a lot of prayers for for her yeah so eliminated in transition for is Claudia Samar the young star only 21 years of age raises a lot of American Cup races she was eliminated first in her semi final a in Jersey in transition to so a better outing for her this time around but here are your leaders beau grand Takahashi and really the important part of this race right now is Felicity shooty Ryan and can she hold off Olmo dental over and Foley are all fighting for that perfect autumn attic qualification spot that’s the race that is 100% the race Angie almost speaking to her yesterday was very very keen looking at the at the semi-final ranking she had she thought she could take that spot and I think she still thinks out but Felicity she dear eyes she needs to move up on her because Angie knows that felicity she D Ryan and shootout on the run he’s a far superior superior micro so it’s a great match off a confirmation as we saw those five-second penalties come through it look like a stop down from Michael Thompson that was a warning to let them know that the five seconds will be added post race so the only pareo knows that she has to put in an extra five seconds as does angie Olmo and you could see that she was a bit upset angioma on her face and she knows that well this plays into the the hands of the woman on screen Felicity she’d be Ryan who’s got an extra five seconds up her sleeve from Foley and the chasing pack will least from Olmo and Foley in dental over the ones that she needs to worry about a little bit more now there’s Angie although there so she’s got so you got five seconds to add to her finishing time so she needs to more than ever and she has moved up slightly she needs to get past felicity she D Ryan if Felicity’s coming to struggle anywhere beyond this descent she’s not technically brilliant on the bike she went over this course yesterday she said she did not like that right-hand turn off the far top speed up this descent that you use this she’s about to embark on and this is where angioma who is a very good bike rider needs to make a move you know I think she’s gonna have to put in a lot of work if she is going to take a spot she not more likely be thinking about putting in the time to make sure that she can take one of those five I guess lucky loses spots if you want to call it that yeah then it’s a waiting game in everybody like to wait about anything you like to finish this semifinal and though you’re in the final you can go down do you recover in and felicity shitty Ryan is racing just like that she knows this is a big opportunity for had some reasonable results 2018 was a great one for her and some good results in 2019 as well and then was Rappaport and Perry out and there’s all my training to chase down she D Ryan so she knows she’s got the five seconds she’s broken away from Foley and Donal over and she’s just doing her best to be as quick as humanly possible on her own as they finished this opening semi-final of what is going to be a huge weekend of racing here in burgoo and warm luck in the heart of Malta felicity shitty riders about ten seconds on Angie Omo and I got told and I just been told that Angie um I was on a borrowed bike she snapped her bike in transition before the race she’s on a borrowed bike which which makes sense because I was expecting a lot more from Angie Armour on this bike ride she’s one of the the best bikers in the field I was expecting to move up a lot more she didn’t look as comfortable as I was expecting and I’ve just been told that she’s on a borrowed bike which is amazing now the party to do that in you’ve done it in transition yeah 20 minutes before the start of a semi final you got to deal with that mentally and who’s lending the bike I have no idea would you lend the bike well anyway but hypothetically I’d lend the bike to a friend without question it’s whether the bike fits and my bike riding is all about fit and comfort and being able to be also used to it because your ease of a specific bike yeah without question and that makes a lot of sense to me because I expect it to be a lot more aggressive on that to send a lot more aggressive in this section on screen here I thought she’d move up on 50 shitty Ryan at 6 or 7 seconds back and she has been out and do that certainly did not look comfortable and here they come around the bend and up mount molteau one more time and that is Rappaport in the lead from pareo but pareo might be worried about where some around port is she’s only worried about the 5 second gap back behind the but you can’t say anyone GT Ryan is still trying to come in to transition so there’s a huge gap between hereo and shitty Ryan which means that Leonie pareo will progress and that is good news after she got caught up in an accident in Jersey and disappointing for her because she is one of our great athletes she’s been around Super League for a while and we expected her to be figuring in the final in Jersey through no fault of her own she was knocked down to that race end up finishing 11th and around comes Ryan and right the back of screen there is Angelo on a borrowed bike and you can see that she just doesn’t look comforts a little bit too small that bike sitting a little bit too far forward all these things it difficult it actually makes the run off the bike even more difficult to all these accumulated things that are going against Angelo Romo and I said that elimination flag down all over is out in 90 seconds okay so midway through the bike is a lane of Dan’l overs elimination and that’ll be a very interesting elimination she’ll have a very nervous weight when it comes to the times of the second semi-final into transition and on to the last leg they go Takahashi puts the shoes on boat grants gonna get out first with a feeling there from taka she much better transition by Cassandra Berg Ryan she who did that with purpose she moved she sort of semi sprinted out of transition to get that gap on Yuko and we had to shut it down now you know Takahashi you would have thought needed to come out in front to have any chance of taking that short shirt and each a transition come pareo and Rappaport who’ve had lonely race between the two of them it’s been a comfortable race for both them I think I think they realized that cap had got up if someone was going to make a move I think that opportunity left her after that second swim now it’s about getting through this semi-final as easily as she possibly can I think she’ll shine a little bit better tomorrow in the final when you start to bring Katie’s Affairs a lot more horsepower up front having a smile the only barrier I’m talking there’s a people on the side of the course so you know that she’s in good form and she’s having a an enjoyable day out knowing that she’s going to come in with a semi-final with a final spot sorry shoot me Ryan comes in and will not be caught there is no way for the city shakir I’ll be caught on the run and she knows that she’d be ecstatic with that bike ride angioma has left herself a lot of lot to do but make it folly we should see her in just a second I think the Folies catching all my butt big I was spent more than five seconds since she came in so Megan finally you’ll need a good run if she’s gonna finish in sixth position we’re still waiting for follow you actually she was a little bit closer than that but oh my even with that five-second penalty might just have in hand you can see 125 on the clock there so some other athletes Foley could be on the verge of elimination and she is looking like that wry smile to put the shoes on anyway for the runs of the elimination flag and there it is unfortunate for Megan fallish you’re finished seventh in semi-final a well she still has to be eliminated as you said if it goes on a count back it’s gonna be a very very interesting final semi-final B would be very interesting indeed because they know that they have to post sometimes or completely event without being eliminated in order to secure that spot semi into the final just a little blip on the timing screen up there Megan Foley is not equal for her she’s actually down in seventh position and eliminated and there is the gap between she D Ryan and Almo but at five seconds to that so Felicity she Ryan she won’t know though that Angelica Elmo hyoni’s having a great time she is having a bit of a fun run out there we’re past summer who doesn’t look as good as as comfortable as the athletes in finished jogging though yeah she is but she she doesn’t look as comfortable as I’ve seen Iligan past she is she’s jogging she does have a bit of a shuffling run which she’s one of the great runners of super trial one of the quickest she’s been outrageous doesn’t have a classic run style that looks fluid yeah so she can be surprising in terms of her run speed it’s effective it’s very very effective and where you think she’d shot and we saw this last year is here on the descent on this downhill running which is an art form in itself and as you can see casado is also a toilet woman taller athlete uses that downhill very very effectively as gap Yuko Takashi so concerned about grant will win your short chute barring some kind of incident she’s got one kilometer probably about 1.4 kilometers left to go on the run Yuko Takahashi’s sitting nicely in second position she’ll get a very good choice on the bike TT depending on of course the speed of the second semi-final which will be coming up at 3 o’clock local time and she D Ryan will not know then jelica Olmo has a five second penalty but you’ll see that and go one more lap to go after this I should have it in the bag but Angie needs to push Angela Elmo needs to push coz at 5 seconds will be added to the time which will affect she’s now in that six position which means time matters to her to secure a spot in the final so that five seconds slows are up even more there is megan foley and elena dental over in the background watching pink jersey hold up coz Andrew grant disappear up to the top of the hill for the final time takahashi second through and Claudia Simard there – watching on attack of how she will finish second so a fantastic effort from her and a real return to form after Jersey three weeks ago turn around become national champion once again back in Japan and then arrive here in Malta with a big confidence boost and finishing second in her semi-final barring incident here comes Perry oh and Rappaport who are fighting now simply for bike TT position choices – very comfortably earning and in a much better headspace just so disappointed after that crash in Jersey she was in fantastic form you can see how good a form she’s in and I think she’s very very happy with the race félicité runs leaving nothing to chance she wants to be there when the guns are firing tomorrow and she will be she hasn’t really even had a look around looking for energy amo well she’s gonna score championship points for the first time by making the final get championship points and that’s important in the overall the end of the season for the money you got to take home oh that was close it’s just right through the 130 she’s got about 600 meters to go as they come up to the finish line now and coming up to the finishing line as easy as you like Cassandra Bagram will win semi final a and she will do it in style and send a message to counties a fear as Rachel clamor and the rest of the athletes yet to race that she is in supreme form Cassandra Burke grant your championship leader and your winner of the short shoot for semi-final lay off the back of a great race where she’s stuck with Bo crown with excellent transitions and a good all-around performance Yuko Takahashi’s second she will progress to Sunday’s racing and she’ll do that easily as well and go Graham will wait for her great friend the only pareo to come up the hill absolutely swallow that five-second penalty won’t make a lick of difference Rappaport if she finishes within five seconds will actually take third position overall so we’ll see if that happens Appirio puts an extra spoon and at the end good crowd already building here and Rappaport doesn’t know that she could take third position don’t know whether she came in under the five seconds or not it’ll be close and felicity shootie Ryan’s will be your last automatic qualifier for Sunday’s racing and she’s very happy the Australian congratulations felicity shitty Ryan you will be there on Sunday and the jury is still out on Angelica Elmo who narrowly avoided elimination at the bottom of the hill comes up the top of the hill at five seconds of that so she comes along in a 3816 and that we’ll need to keep an eye on that so Angie amo on the deck she’s worked very hard we’ll head down now to joy with Cassandra but it’s good because I was with Luca so we we try to push together so it was very good and of course last time you had a lot of running on your own how much did it help you to have Yuko alongside yours I saw behind and I saw a beats behind and how do you enjoy your first race in Malta we saw the crowd cheering and clapping as you came in those excellent congratulations good luck tomorrow thanks Joe and thanks Cassandra yeah it makes a little bit easier when you’re at the front if you’ve got someone with you and when she said she controlled the race she just probably brought the the pace back a little bit I was wet with takahashi and then on the run did what you needed to do it’s always easier to have company on a course especially if you’re trying to get through and save as much energy as you can for a final you can just key off the other athlete you you know it’s in control and he’s sure to love that smiles on the faces of summer Rappaport and Felicity she D Ryan they’ll both go through and she stoked isn’t she has anything to do the job there summers obviously been here and done it before but you know second round of Super League triathlon she makes it through to Sunday which is no mean feat straighter than you need nutrition for we hope people hurry oh who does not want to be filmed eating but that’s what we do here super league great access for our cameras in the recovery area and nutrition incredibly important when you’re on a multi-day racing it’s all full of chocolates and candy you go in there it’s quite funny you’ve been in there a few times already I live in there but I know that they’re very very comfortable the only para one of the the real real cool fun athletes of the series she’s she wants to get in these finals she was as I said so disappointed in Jersey like almost inconsolable she she really came into this year’s series looking to retain one of those contracts move up into that top five or top six positions and and she felt let down after Jersey the crash put her out of valuable championship points so she’ll be ecstatic that she’s into this bottle tomorrow absolutely she’s great friends to with Angie on my part of the French Connection from her partner Leo bojay who will see a little bit later on and you can see there the hike between the two of them and we’ll hope for the Italian fans at least that angioma was in she posted a 38 16 the sixth position so that is your key marker for the next semi final but having a look at this one it was a good start in the closest pontoon position for beau grant and a great start in the furthest position for takahashi you swam across the front Rappaport managed to latch on to beau grants feet as they came out of the water for the first time and it was a pretty quick swim as times go here in Malta Takahashi was off the front in the bike the first time around and the two of them dropped Rappaport back into a group of three into transition and out of transition leading was takahashi she’s very very good at that the fourth discipline of triathlon and from there the two of them really were never had it swaps positioning a little bit until the final run came through that was in fact the first run but beau grant her quality she’s averaging at about a 302 pour for the round which is pretty quick if you don’t mind honors course on this yeah and Takahashi great swim the second time around and managed to lash back onto the feet and I think at that point for Sandra was wondering how are you still there and just put a little bit more pace on first elimination was Claude Issa Mart there was three overall as the pay speeded up at the front of the 92nd started to burn a few people Elena dental over will be the second to feel it second time on the bike the pace a little bit quicken out with takahashi hanging on and again having good transitions but once Cassandra bo grant came out of transition the last time in front she extended her lead picked up the short chute and did the job that she needed to do and there she is crossing the line and happy to do so conserving energy for the next day takahashi across the line in second I had off pareo who may or may not have finished five seconds ahead of summer Rappaport doesn’t matter in the end really they both qualify for the final as does felicity she D Ryan who comes across in the last automatic qualifying spot so let’s take a look now at the results as they stand a 36 54 Cassandra bo grant 37 11 and 30 seconds back to Perry oh it was six seconds in the end of Rappaport so pareo hangs on to third position felicity she D Ryan in fifth and Angie Omo in the 36 18 three elimination to make it foley elena dental over and Claudie Simard will have very nervous weights but you’d say that their homes wouldn’t be too high to make Sunday’s racing and that all depends on what happens at 3 p.m. local time so about 20 minutes away we’ll head back down now to Joanne Kia who’s found Yuko Takahashi’s who’ll be very happy with her result fantastic race and you were leading for quite a bit how did that feel for a lot of trains yeah thank you very much ah he has really good team so I feel really good and I’m enjoying racing with Cassandra I knew that really hard to beat her on the run so I just focus on how I take the corner or like ready for tomorrow yes and we know that she is a great runner but you did stay with her for much of it what were you telling yourself to keep you going you just keep for her yeah and it makes up for a tougher Racing outfit out in Jersey what would make you happy tomorrow oh yeah I just try to do my best thing yeah keep Jersey yeah absolutely keep the right choice and continue to score me tomorrow good luck and well done yeah thank you very much national champion who hung around with Cassandra boy grant for much of that race couldn’t take the short shoot herself but a very good acquittal no doubt and a little bit left in the tank for you go Takashi you would have thought and for all of our at least four of our top five athletes who weren’t really in danger from the opening shots if you if you like God with that question I think I think that the Queen rose to the top in that semifinal I don’t think there was any big surprise if there was any surprise and I’m a surprise but I think if there was any takeaway from that it’s how important the start is in this race setting up that first run section with the longer run that’s what Felicity she D Ryan into that position which in that second swim bike and run was able to secure that spot in the final but overall they did it very very comfortably and I think in the second semi-final the takeaway will be establishing that break early Katie’s a fear is Rachel clamor carry mara Sophie car well ilaria Zayn and then three juniors as well but also there is Taylor Spivey inand she is a monster in the water here she absolutely dominated we had a swim TT last year right down there where you can see the beautiful boats here in the harbor at burgoo won that and also posted the quickest swim time of anyone in Malton was a 305 last year but that was without people like beau grant and Holkar well and Olivia Mathias as well but still 305 in the swim and they’ll be looking out for her and Chewie looking to post a very solid result she’s currently fifth overall in our championship standings I think there’ll be a bigger group because of the the swim power and this sneaker semi-final out of the water together and Rachel Kleber needs to be in a position close enough for that swim power to stay in the hole I’m sure she will be but if she’s we saw in Jersey swim out of a skin that’s where this race is going to be set up in that opening the photos are out top five as we’re saying for them well within themselves Felicia DCD Ryan was on the bubble and she put the work in and we’ll see whether that that’s too much tomorrow but she’ll be very happy with some Sunday racing and a little bit earlier on Joanne Kia caught up with Dallas by via fifth place as we were saying the American very much a force in Super League triathlon you had a great race here last year you won the time trial of course how do you feel to be back oh I love this race I always have a hard bike course and I’m looking forward to suffering here again okay and the transitions also so important in Super League especially with these hills in mind what do you have to think about in terms of gears and getting things ready to go out those hills yeah I think this format where you swim bike run swim bike run without any brakes you have a lot to think about whether it’s you know putting your cap and your goggles into your swimsuit after the first swim getting into the right gearing and as you put your bike back into transition and you know just making sure everything is in place for the next round is you know just adds another factor so if you mess up one thing I think it really it really shows going into that second leg of the race okay and the running because here we have downhill running as well what’s the key to getting that right the downhill is really tough some days your legs can just like roll down the hill really fast and other days you just don’t have it as you saw last year I think summer Kirsten and Katie really you know utilize those downhill sections of the race and that that played to their advantage and I hope I have it in my legs this year to a you know be up there at the top of the race and is there anything else from your experience on course that you think the athletes should pay real attention to I think the most important thing about this race this weekend is you know just giving enough today to make it to the final tomorrow and you know having a little bit left to really push the pace tomorrow because going up this hill this many times since we have to is is going to burn everyone’s legs okay well we are going to be cheering you on best of luck we know you came forth last time let’s see if you can make it onto the podium yes that would be really nice thank you
