Hi fellow XBikers,

not sure if this still belongs here but my Hercules is nearly complete.

Got it as a running full-stock, never serviced and nearly never ridden monstrosity of early MTB/ATB just a few weeks ago and did a full rest-mod (+added some bling)

Specs:
Base is a Hercules ATB special from about 1989. I got it for 40€ and happened to be a gift that never stopped giving.

Wheelset: For starters I wanted to keep it stock because I was unsure about the drum brakes. After some research they seem to be quite sturdy and spare parts are still kind of available. That said I got a whole second wheelset and built the wheels you see on the bike. The hubs are the only stock part and got serviced. I combined them with snowflake-laced spokes, 26-584 rims (yes I run 650B and a tubeless Setup) and added a NOS Sachs Maillard Freewheel.

Parts: all cables and housings are new. The drivetrain got cleaned up and a little bit of fresh grease here and there. The chain got a cleaning in the supersonic cleaner and is now waxed. Surprising bit: the crankset got oval chainrings for the 28t and 38t from stock! Pedals are Wellgo LU-952, well used and just came in (they need a service and will get that ASAP)

Bling: Purple accents from NOS Shogun Handlebar, Steatclamp, Bottle Holder and Headset Lock. Of course fancy purple spoke-nipples aswell…

Bonus: when I bought the second wheelset I got a Bullmoose-Style Handlebar with them. As it is full chrome I'm not sure if I should add it at the moment but we will see.

Now let me here your thoughts and roast me to hell if needed 😅

  1. Pure XBiking sorcery and congratulations on learning to cast the “stunning spokes” spell on those twistedly lovely wheels!
