Hello All,
I am setting off to tour china from Beijing to Hong Kong next week. I have put together a draft of my proposed route, but not sure how much of this is feasible.
This will be my first time visiting China.
For those who have extensive knowledge of the country, please let me know how I can further improve my plans.
Generalize Itinerary includes:
Beijing -> Xian -> Chengdu -> Changsha -> Guilin -> Macau -> Hong Kong (via Ferry)
3000+ Miles (4800+ kms)
163000+ ft. of elev (49600+ meters)

Wow… Wish you all the best. Elevation is astounding. May I ask how heavy your setup is?
Pretty nice. I’ve done all of these independently. The green stretch has some serious uphill sections, but you’ll manage. Just don’t count on making too many kilometers a day. The red stretch is going to be very hilly and there’s a lot of truck traffic everywhere…
The green and red sections are also going to be the most difficult ones in terms of finding low-cost places to sleep at night
The final stretch will bring you onto X roads a lot – countryside roads rather than S or G roads – and you’ll probably have some dog encounters here…
A long time ago, after finishing the green stretch myself, I got so lost in Chengdu I proceeded westwards to Tibet instead of the planned trek down to Hong Kong 🤣 maybe the same will happen to you…
