TLDR; Which would you go for?

I've started hitting the trails with my kids and we've enjoyed it so much that I decided to invest in a proper bike. My current bike is a department store K2 that I think I bought almost 20 years ago. I went to several LBS this passed weekend, and sadly the year end deals in my size (M, M/L) are pretty much all gone. I'm mostly leaning more towards the used market to maybe get a better value for my money. That said, I have hese 4 on my watch list right now but I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the components and knowing what's better than what, what's worth the upgrade/cost over the other. So I thought I'd ask the community which they would get. This bike will mostly be seeing forest trails, and not really any long distance pavement.

Roscoe 7 – Used for $1100CAD (could make an offer). Current owner not sure what year model it is. Looks like potentially 2022 or 2023.

Growler 40 – New clearance from online store $1499CAD+tax. Used they seem to go around $1200 so for a few hundred more I'd go new.

Charger A2 – New special ordered from LBS $1499CAD + tax

Roscoe 8 – Used/New $1850CAD Private seller selling brand new bike (he was asking $2200CAD). Seller bought this bike last winter for $3k and never rode it.

I would look for a better deal on a Roscoe 8. Or even look for a used Roscoe 9. I lean towards the treks just due to my familiarity (I have a 9) and abundance of dealers.

None of those are a bad choice though.

Edit to add the Specialized Fuse is worth a look as well.

  2. The Roscoe suits where I live now. 2 years ago it would have been a Growler, but the Roscoe is more all round and if I want it slacker like the Growler an Angleset is pretty cheap.

    Get the Roscoe

  3. Roscoe 8 but dang that is expensive… but only a couple of upgrades away from being a fantastic bike. Wheels and crank alone make it worth it over the 7 imo.
