Yesterday I woke up planning to go for a ride and noticed my rear tire had gone flat overnight. I pumped it back up and immediately heard a hissing sound with sealant leaking out. I spun the wheel for 5–10 minutes, then parked the bike with the leak facing downward hoping the sealant would plug it.

Now it’s been about 24 hours and the tire seems to be holding pressure. The odd part is that the whole surrounding area is covered in sealant, but it doesn’t look white—it feels kind of oily, which seems strange to me.

Is this safe to ride on, or is it time to replace the tire?

  1. Send it, if needed pop tire off and put an internal patch in there to get more life out of that bad boy. I’m not a fan of bacon strips….

  2. Celestialdischarge1 on

I’m in this sitch. Pinhole some how right in the middle of the tread. It’s distressing seeing sealant slowly leaving but somehow it’s held air for two weeks while doing that. My big rides are done for the year but poking around short stuff I’m just riding it until it declares itself
