not sure if I’m content with my light setup. Since the trail is tight and not that fast I mostly had good visibility. 500 lumen generic brick light from Amazon on the bars and 400 lumen i forget the brand, but it’s a real one, on the helmet. The helmet cam has a narrow beam. It seemed to make sense but I started noticing that my head and eyes don’t really line up and sometimes I was having a hard time lighting around corners exactly what I need to see. For a slower trail like this should i use a more broadbeam headlight? Would it be weird to run floodlights on both the bars and helmet?

  1. Hard to tell but imo it looks like the light is directed too close so you’re not lighting far enough down the trail. The beams look narrow with a lot of the periphery in darkness (or at least that’s what the camera shows) so you have a narrow tunnel of light. It’s not all about lumens but also how the light is spread.

I like my Outbound Lighting setup.

Dual lights are best. Broad beam on the bar, spot light on the helmet.

The two lights give you contrasting shadows to see holes, roots, rocks and other features.
