Price is great – here in Australia, it would sell for over double that.
But, frame appears small.
Gears are not indexed.

He has not looked after it, I would give him$400 cad max for it, depending on mechanical cond.

Seems fair enough if it is in working order.
Mismatched tires, but I always change them when buying a bike anyway. Together with bartape it helps give that “new bike” feeling.
Mechanical discbrake calipers. Check that the Hayes calipers are working properly. Otherwise save up for a set of Avid BB7.

Honest question because I live in Europe. Everyones saying that’s a good price and it would cost more in Australia and stuff. Are you for real? To me this is a shit bike I wouldn’t touch. 10 years old, badly serviced, Shimano altus, friction shifters for almost 700€? No was I’m buying that

That fork will be a harsh ride. No rake or flex
Just a quick observation.

No looks really used and worn, max I’d do is $100 USD.

So this is before the chainstays were widened. It really depends on your future use case. Dirt or road. I believe that you could only get up to 38mm tire in the back. If that helps your decision. It came stock with 32mm. The newer sutras you can get a 45mm or maybe wider.
