Currently using my grizl 5 AL as a roadbike with 60mm wheels and a magene PES 505 crank with a 48t 1x chainring and the original chain/cassette. The chainring is pretty close to the chainstay but it think a 50t could fit without bolt spacers in place. The PES is also a 2x crank so the chainline is optimized for that.

10.2kg with pedals, cages and garmin mount.

  1. I’m a newer cyclist and I already find the 40T chainring on my Grizl to be a bit too high geared and was looking to replace it with a 36 or 38T. How do you manage climbs with a 48T chainring?

  2. I am pretty sure, that this is already more than the frame can handle. I’ve got a 46T on my gravel setup and that already snapped off the little plate there. While you could technically fit a 50 or something along the lines on there with a tight clearance, once you put down power and have some flex in the BB area, which this bike certainly has plenty of, it will make contact. If you want to go bigger, you definitely need to spacer it, which will not improve your chainline or q-factor. I would be certain, that you aren’t spinning out your gears, which would be not only more efficient but also faster.
