Hi all!
I am looking to get into road biking and want to get into it as cheaply as possible at first to determine enjoyment and make sure it’s something I want to invest in more down the line. I don’t have a starting budget, but I did see this listing and thought it seemed like a good deal especially since Specialized is a known brand in the industry. It looks like it’s probably an earlier 2000s model, but I’m not sure. Let me know what your thoughts are on this specific listing, and also any alternatives I should consider.
Thanks!!

pics and details are very limited but those are generally nice bikes. from the tiny bit of detail you can see it looks like it’s in good shape. might need new cables, new chain, etc… looking at anywhere from a other maybe $100-$250 to get it up and running (250 higher end if it needs a new cassette for instance). I’d guess probably another $150-$200 realistically if it needs new tires
That looks pretty clean with low miles even in the fuzzy photos. I’d definitely pay $100 for that even if it is 15+ years old and there’s no drive side pictures.
Likely stolen if it’s $100. Especially with only one pic
They are nice, but check for dings and hairline crackings near BB, dropouts, and other welds. Don’t assume it’s just paint. Also, triple is kind of tricky to set up right for a novice, but you’ll get good range.
You may want to verify the size and authenticity. Ad says 54″, Bike frames are typically measured in cm not inches. 54″ = 4.5 ft.
sure yeah it’s cheap and very decent, you could spend very little to upgrade it
Allez is a good bike. lt’s been around for a long time. This one is probably around fifteen years old. l will guess it has Sora shifters with thumb buttons. That’s OK. They work- unless they are gummed up with dry grease. You can fix that. And check to be sure that seatpost is not stuck. lf it is, you can fix that too, but it won’t be much fun. l don’t think you can go wrong for $100. lf it needs any work, you can learn how to do it. Start with trying to save those tires before buying new ones
UPDATE- Seller added more pics. (1/4)

It seems ok, there’s a good old frame. You ultimately won’t know until you ride it, but if the wheels are true, they spin freely and the brakes are functioning, you should be in a good place. Like others have said, I’d plan on at least getting new tires and inner tubes for it, perhaps a new chain and brake pads if they are cracked/ worn out. I bet a good local shop could help with all that or you could do it yourself for 200 or less. Even better if you have a local bike co-op you could likely get some cheap assistance and cheap parts to keep on the road for much less.
this is a pretty ok one as a starter. Old, yes, but looks to be lightly used. Teeth on chainrings look to still bite decently… Probably, tires will need to be replaced due to cracking. A new chain may be a really nice, cheap upgrade that will help keep things tight. Good starting point that u can definitely enjoy for a few yrs until you get to next level. I would buy it…
Win
Its looks good for 100 bucks
Better you check the frame
