Vantage System 2 quill stem that came with a used bice I just bought. I can’t find a stem online that has the minimum insertion line this low. Seems unsafe to me? Last photo is with it inserted where the logo is just inside the frame. I ask because I would like it as high as possible.

lol that’s crazy, must be a manufacturing issue or else someone modified it. I don’t think you need to bin the stem, but definitely install it the normal 2.5″-3″ minimum.
Someone cut that.
Yeah… most likely the thats been cut before to fit into a short head tube. That’s not the true minimum insertion
you’re totally good.
Well, obviously the stem’s been cut. It can *still* be used. The crucial consideration is that the wedge should extend past the threaded portion of the fork steerer, which should put it somewhere south of the top tube. If that puts the bars too low, time to shop for another stem.
Digression: I find it odd that stems with extended shafts, obviously meant to raise the bars, are still negative rise. Is it tradition or aesthetics?
That’s definitely been cut. I’ve done that myself, but only because a stem was bottoming out on a fork with a really short tube. Not really an issue as long as you’re running ~75mm in side the steer tube.
agree with the others, definitely been cut but not much of an issue
Run it minimum 5cm deep
Looks like it was cut down
How far in would you like it to go?
