I’m trying to disassemble the headset on a 90s mtb. The top bearing race doesn’t have anything for my wrench to grab onto and there seems to be a spacer or nut of some kind on top of the race. Does anyone have any experience with this type of setup, or advice for getting this off? Thanks!

Looks like you’re after a lock ring wrench. I think the park tool HCW-17 is what you’re after but you might need something else depending on the curve of the lock ring. You can also use a punch or flat head with a hammer to loosen it but the correct tool is always best to avoid damaging the interface.
That nut thingy on the top can be removed with a special tool that looks like a [hook](https://www.parktool.com/en-us/product/fixed-gear-lockring-wrench-hcw-17). You will need some [chanellocks](https://www.amazon.fr/Channellock-Pince-multiprise-m%C3%A2choire-droite/dp/B00002N5JF) for the lower part.
Looks like you need a C spanner/wrench. Google: “Park tools headset standards”
10″ Knipex Cobra is the only tool I know that works well on those upper race nuts.
That’s actually quite bizarre… and it doesn’t even make any sense? There should be another nut on top that totally covers the threads.
