(FYI This crank was toast already… teeth had rounded and it wouldn’t stay put)
I got home from the UK yesterday, and though exhausted, wanted to stay awake to adjust my sleep schedule.
“Great,” I thought, “I’ll go install those Super 75’s that came while I was away.”
Except, in my sleepiness, I forgot which way the threads went. My torque wrench turned the bolt into a nice round hole like it was butter.
I’ve spent today with drills, hack saws and dremels trying to get this sucker off. At this point I’m just angry. Also, fresh out if dremel cutting wheels.

This is the dumb shit people do when they don’t learn about tools and machining. Your family and your education have failed you!
Did you move your bike inside or are you seriously hacking away your bike on the rug? This is so fucking stupid
a few more missed cuts and you’re going to need a new frame in addition to new BB and cranks.
You’ll get it. Keep sawing away what you don’t need
Take a grinder to the bb spindle vertically
You can use your drill and/or your Dremel for threphanating yourself. Your brain needs more oxygen
My eyes
Why would you use a torque wrench to loosen something?
could barely even tell what i was looking at here. godspeed soldier
I get downvotes every time I mention that this is not the sub for mechanical assistance.
Sometimes a professional is the answer.
For everyone: find a good bike shop, and use them if needed. What you see pictures here is 100% preventable.
Damn dude, yea you fucked up and now ya gotta suffer a lil. Godspeed
This is why we don’t wrench while sleep deprived. Some penetrating oil, patience, and replacement chainrings are cheaper than taking the death wheel too vintage parts.
I found out the hard way that crank pullers have different sizes, and if the little pusher thing doesn’t fit through the square hole, you’re just going to strip the threads. I still got it off, but the next bike it goes on might be permanent.
Well it’s obviously too late now, but next time you round out a crank bolt drill the head off and then use a normal crank puller to pull the arm.
I’m wondering if you can remove the driveside crank arm and cup, then just thread the non d/s cup out. Remove the stuck/destroyed arm out with the bb.
Nailed it!
Can you drill it and tap it then use a bolt extractor for stripped bolts?
See ya on r/justridingalong
I hope this frame is only a Pube frame because this is a nightmare that’s probably going to cost you the frame.
