I‘m riding bikes for 40 years now and have NEVER ripped off a rear derailleur?
So again: How did you manage that?

How’d you get the beans above the frank?

Take it apart. Clean the parts. Bag & tag the parts. Leave on the shelf for 10 years in case you need parts.

I don’t see the problem.

Hate it when that happens … especially to the best derailleur ever !

Should be able to align that hanger

I liked reddit because Inet people that taught me by sharing their knowledge. And now there’s you, dedicating a topic to an everyday issue that you could solve yourself, had you listened to other redditers.

If it breaks well at least those dropouts are horizontal enough to tension a single speed setup

Oof. The good thing about steel frames, it can be bent back. If not, it’s a single speed now.

not sure if you’re asking for help or just wanted to share (thought this was bikewrench for a second and then checked)
I would probably give bending it back a try – forged steel dropouts seem unlikely to have a spontaneous crack and split. leave the wheel in the dropouts, start with a crescent wrench, then finish with the hanger alignment gauge like usual.
alternatively, because you’ve got space in the dropouts, using one of the bolt-in derailleur hangers might be a simple fix 🙂
apologies if you know all this already

Derailleur is gone but I’ve re-aligned worse.

Hanger is still viable
10 speed Deore with a narrow/wide ring in the middle position solves these situations.
Derailleur, shifter, cassette and chain in a kit is the super inexpensive yet massive upgrade. The long cage version and the 46 tooth cassette if you live in the mountains. The 42t if you don’t. This is smart money. I put this on a bike recently and it’s slick af
Or another 7 speed Deore mech off eBay

I think your hanger is bent.

Forced to single speed

Easy fix, new/used rear derailleur, insert chain, see how it shifts. Could be all that was needed

Not exactly how I’d go about a singlespeed conversion but it works!

A sign from the cycling gods that it is time to convert to a fixie
Repeat after me: “This is why we don’t buy carbon fiber frames, no matter how light and sexy they are.”

Aside from the broken derailleur, that’s repairable. I got doored and in a poor state of judgement, got back on my bike to ride home. The derailleur was already out of alignment and the cage snagged the spokes and did this to the hanger. A few minutes with my trusty hanger alignment tool and it’s been good ever since.
