I was installing the new front derailleur while I’m torquing I heard cracking noise so I took it off to check it out to found what appeared to be a crack?(hope not)
Looks pretty bad. Can you feel movement? You could also try pulling off some of the stuff that appears to be paint and seeing more clearly how bad the damage is, but I’m assuming it’s toast.

Sadly, it looks like a crack, but I would bring it to a shop and let experts look at it.

You do have the option of getting rid of the front derailleur and running a 1x system

New bike!

We can’t tell the extent of the damage from these images. Your frameset may have a piece of aluminum bonded inside the carbon in this area. If so, the damage may be superficial. If instead, the whole area is solid carbon you may have done severe structural damage.

Looks broken. Can’t see it in your photos but it’s probably riveted on though so could be replaced.
Worst case scenario you’ve now got a 1x drivetrain.

This is not a paint chip. It’s cracked. Broken. Time to make this a one by… I think.
You are also uploading pics that are zoomed in. Zoom out so we can see the full assembly. Maybe this is a swapable item.

If the derailleur mount is cast into your frame, you have a problem, but it likely can be repaired.

There is a good reason I purchased a torque wrench for my bike…. As expensive as it is, is better than replacing bike parts or a frame….

Very hard to know. Take it to a bike shop.

1x it

Oof, that’s a bummer. I’m sure an expert could repaired this, but it would probably be hard to find someone capable, and possibly more expensive than it’s worth.
So maybe a 1x is in order? Or perhaps, if this area of tubing is round, you could very carefully cut this mounting point off, file down any high points, and use a clamp-on front derailleur? That’d be risky, though, might weaken the seatube.

Yea. You smashed the carbon.
PiggypPiggyyYaya on
You can probably get it fixed since derailleur mounts aren’t exactly critical to the frames structural integrity.

JB Weld to the rescue.

Get some 2-part epoxy resin and mix it up, then paste it into the broken pieces, squish it together and then use something to squish it together until the epoxy sets. It looks like the inner part is hollow so you could paste epoxy up under there so it won’t happen again.
A decent independent bike shop should also be able to do something like that. A flashy high end one probably wouldn’t be interested.

What torque value were you aiming for? Were there washers to spread the load?

There are clamp-on front derailleurs, and thus could be ground off.
