I have a Chamois Hagar I was thinking of using for bikepacking. I like 29×2.2 (700×55) but it’s a really tight fit. I was thinking I could put some protector on the frame to prevent debris damage, but it’s reeeealy close.
The tire will warp and you will have rubbing. So you’ll lose watts, rubber, and your frame.

Maybe you’ll be 0.01% slower and 0.002% less comfortable on a 50mm tire there. What’s your thinking behind needing to ride 55s on a frame not built for them?

Fit a slim tyre, more width is not worth wrecking your frame over. Trust me, even if it looks like it’ll fit, the grit, mud and sand will eat your frame.

You can barely get a Rizla between your tyre and the frame. This is probably one of the worst “does this look alright” posts I have seen. Honestly, you don’t need 55mm tyres and your bike certainly doesn’t need it!

Nice carbon frame. A shame if something were to happen to it! 😁

Personally, I wouldn’t go bigger than 45mm. Just as comfy and a little bit faster.

Yeah if it’s muddy you’re fucked.

I mean if you ride a km you’ll find out. You’ll hear the sound of scraping and feel grit being trapped.

Let me know if you feel like selling those tires

Fuck it, it’s fine…..
Not really, that’s a little too close unless you never expect to see any moisture on the trail.

Based on the mess, you already made that bad choice 😂

Bad idea

They have frames designed specifically for tires of that size. They’re called mountain bikes.

Google Unbound 2023 Frame Damage and look at some of the frames that hit the mud with more clearance than you have. Think of a spinning wheel with sandpaper on it against your frame. For hours on end.

Very bad idea

I guess, also FWIW, this is what 55mm looks on your Hagar you crazy lunatics.

great method of gaining clearance, plus it will wear in places you need more
So full of win, i bet you’ll get tired of winning

not necessarily. you have the perfect excuse to buy a new bike after you wreck this frame

Uhhhhhhhhh how much money do you have for a new frame?

I think RH sells that tire in a 48. Just change the rear.

Only if you value the paint staying on your frame right there

Yes. And also RH tires are far from reliable

You will destroy your carbon frame and some protective tape is not going to be enough to prevent it.

What is the infatuation with running mountain bike size tires on gravel bikes?
cshel13 on
Yes, it’s always a good idea to have your chain on the chainring.

If you want that wide . You need to go for a 650B … I did that on a Revolt and able to fit 27.5 x 2.3 while maintaining my outer tire diameter the same as my 700×40

Bad isn’t really the correct word here.
not on carbon. you’re asking for it here.
Does it have sliding dropouts?
