I feel like electric bikes – mountain bike and not – are just absolutely everywhere touristy. All the rental places offer them and they’re the most popular product.
For example, I got a roadbike in Corsica this summer – fabulous experience – but the owner said it was one of like 8 they have vs over 30 electric MTBs. And although at 6 AM you’d only encounter human powered bikes, that makes sense with the temperatures being what they are. After 10 you can expect to get overtaken by people on electric mtbs who aren’t even sweating.
I’d wager most of the e-bikes you came across weren’t being used by locals but travelers no?

In the Gaistal valley towards the Rotmoosalm.
The entire valley is amazing, but can get very busy during summer. In the morning it was still very empty!

I’d love to take my Jeep there.

That looks like *ideal* terrain for a gravel bike. The commenter saying it’s probably tourists on rental e-bikes makes sense.

and be overtaken by them, plenty of them…

Feel weird about it? Not really. The best way for bike infrastructure to improve is for more people to ride bikes and realize how bad it is (at least here in the US in general).
Personally, I enjoy pedaling myself but I won’t judge someone or really care if they’re using a motor or self powered.
What I do care about is the dipshit kids flying around on glorified electric motorcycles and idiots on lime bikes/scooters paying zero attention who have no clue and zero concern or awareness of safety.
I nearly flipped over a lime scooter yesterday because the dude riding it pulled across a narrow bridge path perpendicular to the direction of travel from behind a big support beam. He had zero awareness and luckily o slowed down enough that when I hit his back wheel, I stayed on my feet and my bike wasn’t damaged.
But people getting out in nature on e-bikes while being respectful? Zero issues, I’m in full support of it.

No one uses gravel bikes here except for bike experts plus they aren’t really sold in shops. The hype just hasn’t caught on yet. I personally got an all mountain bike because I’m near mountains and I want versatility.
I can imagine that gravel bikes are more popular on gravel in flat areas.

I got the same vista and roads here. I do both. Gravel bike it’s usually for a whole day. Alone and packing the minimum gear. It’s a real sport for me … climbing for 3 hours I can’t do it the next day.
E-bike mtb for a quick morning / afternoon. Also when my kids want to tag along so I can tow them.
I see more emtb than anything else. Rarely à gravel bike. I see more gravel bike in the valley where its flat.
Funny enough I go to more harder / rough path with my gravel than the emtb because I can quickly grab it and carry on my back then saddle up. When climbing that is.
I love both equally. Because I don’t have the same goal when riding either one of them. I’d say my gravel bike is my escape tool I’ll back in the evening, exhausted and happy. My emtb is like my expensive toy, climbing and smiling at the same time.
