Hi all. New cyclist here – the community has been so welcoming.
I just picked up this brand new 2025 Trek FX2 (model #5292986) from a very reputable local biks shop. Trek's Specs page says it should come with Shimano CUES U4000 9-speed, however it looks like mine has a 10-speed Shimano Deore.
Did I get a lesser component on my bike? Should I ask them to replace it, or is this an upgrade over the CUES?

Note: Current groupset is the DEORE CS-M4100.
You got an upgrade. You won’t have any problems with that group set as long as you take care of it.
If there are component shortages in production, Trek will upgrade.
Every bike manufacturer out there has it listed in their website/specs that components on bikes are subject to change subject to availability. In this case you got an upgrade it’s a better groupset than Cues
If the shift levers on the handlebars have the DEORE logo, they should be fine.
If the shift levers are SL-U4000 or 4010, something is wrong—head straight back to the store where you bought it.
I know not everyone welcomes CUES, but in my experience, the less finicky CUES might be better suited for beginners. It still works fine even if the cable gets loose or the hanger bends a bit.
Thank you everyone. It sounds like this DEORE M4100 is at least equivalent, perhaps even a mild upgrade, over the standard CUES U4000 noted in specs.
I appreciate the insight!
Flip the light grey lever and turn the derailleur clutch on, too!
10 spd Deore M5120 with the clutch? I’ll take that over the Cues 9 speed.
