I'm wondering if others who commented watched the same? The city looks dirty and dreary, I grew up and lived in this area 40+ years. Would I recommend newcastle as a place to visit? No, I would not. Go to the nearby countryside and seaside instead.
Newcastle as a city looks like a mix between nearby Leeds and Edinburgh. Surprisingly clean and new smooth pavements. Much cleaner than Liverpool Manchester and Birmingham, even most of London. Impressive old architecture, castles and churches, even if it looks a bit tired! Christmas market looks good too! How far is St James park though?
I was in Newcastle for a week in November–absolutely loved it. Speaking of love, McCartney and Lennon wrote "She Loves You" in the Royal Station Hotel (shown immediately after leaving the station).
