As I posted here before, I am on a bikepacking trip with friends to Lisboa. After Bilbao, the group wants to cycle along the coast of Spain (1st picture). The elevation profile is too high for the group so they want to take the train for some stages.
I’d love to avoid trains and just ride right through the middle of Spain. I’ve done that before.
Do you think that it would be a bitchy move if we‘d split parts in Bilbao and meet again in Lisboa? We‘d probably arrive at the same time. I just want to avoid trains at any cost.

We’ve already cycled together for 14 days as of today, so „group activities“/spending time with the group is sorted out haha. We are best friends. So no bad energy.
u Can do the “Camino Frances”, (flat and cheap “albergues/hospitales”), and in Santiago take the “camino portugués de la Costa”.
Looks totally fine for me. It’s better to say about your preferences than struggle. The only question if you are already on a trip – how did you discuss it with your group during the preparation. I think such important questions as route should be discussed in advance.
sometimes u have to do compromises and in the end its not that bad
its a group travel ride, so enjoy the time with your friends!
if u want o ride it the other way u can do it alone, its hard but real
Im doing the same trip in which point are you?
How big is the group?
Is there anybody else in the group would want to go with you?
If not, are you sufficiently prepared for a solo trip through some pretty remote areas.
Don’t split up
Just a heads up, the trains in Portugal are utterly cheap compared to Spain/France. If you are skipping the trains for financial reasons, well, you’ll save enough for a meal or two. If you’re doing it for the adventure, no shame on parting ways and regroup later, go for it.
Take the weather extremely seriously, cycling uphill with 35+ in this region can be exhausting even for experienced riders. I’m drinking 5L a day on average when I’m on the saddle here. You don’t want to skip a proper meal, burn 4k Cal and embrace the northern hills, specially alone.
Plan ahead and enjoy the time alone 😉
