Hey everyone, I just got a new wheelset for my road bike and I’m trying to transfer my 10-speed Shimano cassette over. The wheelset and tires I bought are supposed to be compatible with my cassette.
When I installed the cassette, everything seems fine except for the second smallest cog. The smallest cog and lockring are fine and tightened, but the second smallest cog wobbles side to side and lifts slightly when I push it. The rest of the cassette cogs are solidly stacked together.
I double-checked that the cassette is seated correctly and that I’m tightening the lockring all the way. I’m wondering if I’m missing something—like a spacer, a compatibility issue, or a damaged cog.
Has anyone run into this before? Any advice on what I should check or try would be super helpful!

There’s a spacer that goes behind the main cassette body. Different combinations of cassettes and hubs have a slightly different width and using a sometimes a spacer is necessary to get the lock nut to tightly hold it all together.
Something like:

Which includes an assortment for various needs.
Many shimano hg free hubs are sized for 11-13 speeds. You likely need a spacer, it should have come with your wheel or your LBS will have one.
