Hi,

I just bought a cheap emonda sl 6 from 2017 with ultegra groupset and to my sad suprise when the chain is on the big front chainring it skips when applying pressure on the pedals. Is this due to the chainring/cassette or jockey wheels needing replacing? I think i will buy a new chain anyway to make sure its not that.

To my knowledge the chainrings don’t seem that worn…

Thanks for the help!

  1. ya, that top ring is worn out and check the teeth in the gears on the wheel. you might need a new set there too. probably the chain is worn too

you can test a chain by measuring it. chains should have a flat .5 inch between pins. another way to check is to set a ruler on the chain and it should start and end on a pin.

That cassette doesn’t look great either.

Whenever you replace chainrings or cassette you also need to replace the chain.

That’s not the *most* worn chain ring I’ve ever seen, but it’s “Jonas Vinnegard winning Stage 2 of the Vuelta” close.

  4. That chain set needs inspecting under the Shimano Inspection program. Get your LBS to confirm as different regions are treating it differently.
