kicked up by the front wheel and run over by the back wheel im guessing. occasionally you see some crazy things impaled in a tire and through the rim of bikes on here.

I once picked up a railroad spike through my rear tire on a dirt bike, looked just like your first picture but way bigger. Still don’t understand how it happened to this day

You don’t think about sticks holding up to a tire, but it’s all about hitting at the right speed and angle. I hit one hard and fast enough on one of my old xc bikes it went straight through a new Kenda tire and it wiped out my rim too.
It’s kind of like the John Wick/Joker pencil trick.

Though unlikely, sometimes things land pointing straight up. Like a twig in a pile of mulch or a sewing needle in shag carpet.
You probably accidentally said the f word earlier. Never say the f word.
I’ve had the end of a twig like that break off inside my road tire and the entry hole still sealed.

It happens. I got a flat once and the cause was broken off arm of an action figure. Imagine a little Plastic gi Joe type arm sticking out your tire.
