Sorry for your loss man, hopefully a local shop can get you a decent discount for a story like this, I know I’d knock a couple bucks off

I’ve seen video’s of people using the bike frame to twist off U-Locks.
They are just after the parts and don’t care about wrecking the frame.
That sucks. 🙁

Never lock your top tube – lock the bottom triangle.

I would be almost disappointed if you’re not part Kryptonite’s marketing team, it would be a genius post! But seriously, it makes you wonder what the thieves tried to do, bend the lock using the bike as a lever?

I’ve got the same model of lock, that thing is beastly

Holy crap.

Fuck that’s devastating.
Sorry for your loss my friend.
Get a beater bike to leave outside, it’s sadly the world we live in, we cant leave nice thing outside or some degenerate will try to take it, apparently to the point your willing to absolutely destroy said nice thing.

Damn. Hurts to see this. These suckers.
Hope you get a nice new bike soon. What a shame and it hurts so much to see things like this as a cyclist.

Ah that’s fcked up. Wish they would’ve just disassembled the wheel or the handlebars.

Nice moment to learn everything there is to learn. Buy a crap bike, strip it down and built it up with the good parts from this one.

Sorry for your loss. Here in the uk, they are angle grinding the locks off

Email this to Surly. I’d be shocked if they don’t try and help you somehow.

I feel so sorry for you! It was such a nice frame. Hope you get a new one.
Maybe you can ask surly if they can give you a frame over crash replacement. Sometimes companies do that although it was not a crash. We did that sometimes when there was a story behind it.
Limp_Bookkeeper_5992 on
That’s rough. It looks to be a modern Surly frame with disk brakes, so while they’re not high end inch bikes it still might be worth getting this repaired. It’s a steel frame with straight tubes, if only the top tube is damaged and you can find a local frame builder willing to do the work you can likely have that tube replaced for $200-300.
You’ll have to paint it afterwards, but if this is a bike you leave locked up frequently a bit of mismatched paint will be just fine.

Surly and the lock company might pay something – tough bike and lock.
Sucks though. Theives are shit

Damn dude, how long was your bike locked up there?
Craigenstein on
Is that an old pacer or a trucker frame?
Either way, that fuckin blows, those older Surly’s are rad bikes.
I have a pacer that came in that same blue, I re-painted mine after some major paint damage. I’ve upgraded it over the years and it’s been one of my favourite bikes.

Check with kryptonite and see if they will cover the damage. They offer anti theft protection, I am not sure if this would be covered.

If this ever happens to me, I pray I catch them in the act tbh.
