This is a recently built specialized hardrock 1994, where a cable goes thru "steel housing" to the brakes. I believe this frame is originally designed for canti brakes, but I only got this XT vbrakes.

My concern involves cables rubbing inside the steel housing, and eventually wears during ride.

Do you guys have a solution to this? Should I go canti brakes? If I go canti, I need to change the levers and shifters sadly since my levers are integrated.

Just run a segment of brake housing through the tube with a ferule at either end.

Or do a full length housing run (my preference on all my bikes TBH)

I would definitely not run this as is – it’ll fray out the cable in no time.

You are mixing a cantilever brake routing with linear pull V-brakes.

What you need is a clamp on cable stop, such as from Problem Solvers.

  3. I might want to get a clamp-on cable stop for the top tube about two inches in front of the seat tube junction. Then run brake housing from there directly into the noodle.
