great effort De Lie!!!
I really question the commentator who stated that de Lie had the best sprint, better than MVDP. Remember what he did to Magnier at Samyn earlier this year in a false flat sprint? In fact, MVDP has the best uphill sprint…
Too early attack costs him the win.
I think a bit too early on the attack, but major respect to De Lie for the strong finish nonetheless!

De lie has gained his form too late hopefully he wins in Canada
To me, MvdP is in the top 5 overall pro riders in the world. Maybe top 3. The main places he is obviously a bit weaker than Pog and Jonas is in the time trial and the high mountains. But they can't touch him on cyclox or the monuments (generally). We've never really been able to see what he's capable of in GC because he's always been a support rider, no the focus of the team. I think if someone were willing to built a GC team around him and he spent an off-season working on his TT and high mountain climbing, he could be a contender. He definitely has the HEART of a winner… he WANTS to win… he's willing to leave it ALL out on the course for a win… and that's something that you can't really teach.
