Reynolds 520 road frame, carbon fork, 9 speed mountain drivetrain with an old 6 speed crankset, tubeless gravel wheels, chainstays cold set from 130 to 135 that I crimped to clear 40mm knobbies, and what might be called a downhill cockpit.

I'm getting older and the 100mm stem had started to make the stretch uncomfortable. I got a 50mm stem and some riser bars, then moved to a 40mm stem.

It's more comfortable but I wonder if the bike build police will give me a ticket.

The first two pics are with the 50mm stem, and it sort of looked normal, but the rest of the pics are with the 40mm stem and it looks like the bike has no stem at all.

  1. I think it’s badass. I love these kinds of bikes, like “What if a hybrid, but it was awesome?” The only thing I would change if it was mine is moto bars instead of the risers only so I could cut the steerer shorter with the same reach. That’s purely aesthetic nitpicking though.

  2. I love road bikes with flat bars, I usually cut them down though, better for getting through small gaps in traffic.

I dig it but please put some bar end plugs in your bars so you don’t accidentally get a core sample of yourself!
