You can cycle from Westminster in central London to Hackney in north east London entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.

The route is 9.2km long (5.7 miles) and makes use of Cycleway 3, Cycleway 1 and part of Cycleway 27 through the London Fields LTN.

You can find Hackney’s Hoxton East Liveable Neighbourhood consultation mentioned the video here. The scheme should be supported overall, but needs more filters to prevent rat-running through the area, particularly onto Cycleway 1 on Pitfield Street:

  1. I'm not surprised to see your edits at the various lights around Parliament Square. It takes ages to get from storeys gate to the embankment

  2. Definitely a good route. Colombia Road Flower Market is only held on a Sunday though. You shouldn't have any difficulty cycling along Colombia Road on a Saturday.

  3. Just done this route twice – today and yesterday going to demos. As I've said before my preferred return from Embankment is to take Queen Victoria Street at Blackfriars to cut diagonally up to Queen Street, King Street up to Guildhall, then right and left on the same route, as it's quiet at weekends.
    Two things:
There is currently a road closure on Pitfield Street near the Britannia but you can cycle via the pavement to get through.
The top end of De Beauvoir Road by Englefield Road has just been resurfaced by Hackney, much to my surprise!

  4. if you want to carry on North once you hit Hackney, the best thing to do is turn right down London Lane from Martello Street, just after you have left London Fields Park. This takes you to a crossing for cyclists over Mare Street, and you can continue Eastward along Cycleway 27 along the side of St Thomas's Square left into Lyme Grove, right onto right onto Brenthouse Rd and then left onto Chatham Place (parallel to Mare St). This takes you Northward, and onto a really nice route along by the side of St John at Hackney Church toward Lower Clapton.

  5. A great route on a lovely day. I wonder what the journey would be like from Westminster bridge to Blackfriars bridge would be like today (early August). It was chaotic with pedestrians cyclists and vehicles when I was there a couple of weeks back. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Very interesting watch. I do both ends of this route regularly, but I usually turn up Farringdon Road and have never been further down the Embankment cycle route, so it is useful to see what it's like. Please keep doing these videos!

  7. I need to learn this route… As I rarely go to hackney as I make such a mess of it. There's a record shop & vegan chips by London fields so there is incentive 😂 this looks doable. I thought I found a great route to the shard this week but got totally lost south of it & you can't see it missed my appointment and everything… I was good past pimlico plumbers and then wasn't x

  8. As someone who uses Komoot for almost every route i do (either for commuting or leisure rides) i have found no changes ever since i started using it a couple years ago! You should be fine continuing using it 😀

  9. Please please please could you do Richmond park to regents part with as little traffic lights as possible!! Or if that’s too long Hyde park to Regent’s Park? As I think I already have a somewhat decent route between Richmond and Hyde park. Thank you!!

  10. Until now, I at least thought I could still recognise riverside locations in London …. Ho-hum!

Some of those pedestrian /bike shared locations within the Square Mile are pretty poorly signed. I could easily imagine conflicts between 🚴‍♂️ and 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️

  11. You might want to look into hosting these files via a public-access Google Drive folder/archive linked with your channel.
Very easy to set up and have files available without having to expect changes server-side; I use it to keep my year's graduation video up.

  12. loving the uploads man another good one .. i often go to Hackney from Kilburn so some good info north of Shoreditch – will try it out next time. Will take a look at the Hackney link too.

I'm doing a 2 day ride to Herefordshire this weekend planned on Komoot – its no longer free to use as navigation on my phone so had to pay £30 for 12 months i think. Much prefer it vs Google Maps /Garmin etc even though it burns battery life at a scary rate – they need to sort that out.

  13. I'm very appreciative of your respectful riding. I think you were spot on when you mentioned pedestrians' right to walk along in a bit of a day dream and to look out for them.

However, at 8:54, as you were emerging from a junction, I believe you should have given way to that pedestrian as they should have priority.

Other than that excellent video as usual. I actually plan to try out cycling in London and I'm sure some of your videos will come in handy.

  14. great video, although i wonder whether it might be better to make use of the c spur/ old C11 route to link up with the current C11 which then leads you to another C spur at Eagle Wharf Road which then links up with the C1 as you can see at 11:23, to avoid the slightly hairy C3-C1 connection.

  15. New C62 markings seem to have gone in along Ravensdon Street in Kennington. Any idea why this is? As far as I can see online C62 is Rotherhide – Peckham, so not sure why it would be going through Kennington?
