Schwalbe G-One RX PRO 700 x 55 off road rolling resistance results ๐Ÿ“Š

These were released at Eurobike this summer and if you caught the Ben Delaney Sea Otter round up back in the spring, Schwalbe isnโ€™t alone in their release of 55 mm gravel tires.

These measure true to size at 55 mm in contrast to a couple 29 x 2.25 Schwalbe mtb tires (Rick and Thunder Burt) I have on hand that also measure 55 mm. All those are on a 25 mm iW rim. This is also good news for everyone that noticed a 55 mm mtb tire wonโ€™t fit some gravel bikesโ€ฆ the same holds true for a 55 mm gravel tire. Itโ€™s just words. Anyway.

For anyone scratching their head at the coexistance of 29 x 2.2 MTB and 700 x 55 gravel tires, I can assure you they are different in construction AND performance. Which is best for you? Only you can decide that, so letโ€™s take a look at how they performed!

As you can see in the results, these are seriously fast for what seems to be a very rugged tire. Very similar to the 50 mm RX PRO I tested recently on Cat 1 and Cat 2 gravel. I tested these on pavement also, where they were a tiny bit slower (0.0003 CRR). These fall off a little on the Cat 3 gravel compared to similar size MTB tires, as I figured would be the case. Due to the larger frontal area, the 55s will cost you a couple watts of aero at 20 mph vs the 50s, so worth keeping in mind.

All off road testing results are my own via Chung Method testing. โœ…

Wattages at speed are calculated from CRR values. With narrow margins in many of the results, we should talk about the testing margin of error. Many variables can impact margin of error, so I like this type of testing as with some awareness of weather, results with a CRR margin of error under 1% are absolutely possible. Chung Method calculations have multiple hundred data points going into creating a single outcome number. With variable power, speed, and elevation going into this result, you get excellent durability of your data even though it can seem like black magic sometimes.

  1. Inevitable-Thanks833 on

just bought these in 700×50 and was worried I made the wrong choice for racing and should’ve gone for the R or RS, thanks for posting this it reassured my purchase! think you will do the g one overland pro anytime soon?

  2. How is the construction different? I see the listed weight at 715g which is very comparable to a small knob MTB tire.

There’s a mold line down the middle so this is definitely a standard vulcanized tire.
