I’ve been working on tuning both my front and rear derailleurs. In doing so I noticed that my rear cassette seems to wobble as the wheel rotates around when not under a pedaling load.
I was wondering if this was normal/expected behavior for the rear cassette or if it is indicative of the assembly requiring maintenance.
Thank you for any feedback you can produce!
Is it normal for my rear cassette to wobble as the rear wheel free-spins?

yes
Normal.
This one
It’s a freewheel, not a cassette. But yeah it’s not uncommon.
Yes, helps the chain derail when shifting – what I was always told anyway…
A freewheel threads onto the hub, and it’s difficult to have these threads perfectly aligned, hence the slight wobble as the hub rotates.
I think this is exacerbated by the fact that freewheels these days are pretty much exclusively found on cheap bikes with low quality parts with crappy tolerances. I suspect back in the day a high end freewheel and hub wouldn’t have wobbled like that, but nowadays it’s pretty much expected, and harmless.
Did I hear free spins?
Yep. That amount of wobble is pretty normal.
