I’m looking for a chain with the same robust build and look, without breaking the bank by buying overpriced vintage chains from ebay.
I have 2×5 gearing on a 60’s Motobecane (see picture), and i’ve seen Dynamo.cr on instagram using Izumi chains which seem to fit the bill. Does anyone have experience with other chains like that?

I cannot really make out the chain in this pic. It seems to be either a plain black oxide finished steel chain or a pretty dirty nickel chain.
So you are looking for a 3/32″ chain with no nickel or zinc plating and flat non profiled outer links. There are plenty of them and most are ion the cheaper side. Shimanos HG40 and HG71 are too profiled, but KMC HV-500 does the bill.
KMCs K1 narrow also has a very solid build but is nickel plated.
Beautyful bike, very nice setup! In Muenster, Germany there is a bikeshop selling retrofit bikes and new an old parts. Name is „studiobrisant.de“. They sell Izumi, Shimano, KMC for acceptable prices.
Any modern 8 speed chain will be the right size. I use the KMC X8 chains on all my 6 speed bikes.

Literally any chain will work, despite weird fear mongering by bike shop mechanics, even 11-13 speed chains will work fine with old freewheels.
That is a lovely bike! I have a 1980 Bob Jackson and have been using a silver KMC X8 which looks nice and shifts fine on a 6-speed freewheel.
Sedis is the best available for this period of bike. Very robust, and take more torque without breaking than all others.
Havent put it on yet, but I recently got a Connex 1/8” chain for a singlespeed. It definitely has the look you are after. It might be too chunky for shifting (or pleasant shifting anyway) but it’s got the look!
It looks different from Connex shifting chains (also good though). I get the sense that Connex are easier to come across in Europe than they are here in the US.
