I cannot for the life of me figure out how to adjust my front derailer right. It will not no matter what I do switch between the three gears smoothly in the front. I've watched a few videos like ten different times. So I will go through steps ive taken to adjust and .maybe someone can help.
Step one: shift to middle gear and make sure derailer is in line with gear set. Make sure also that derailer is one millimeter above front most gear. Tighten down derailer.
Step two: shift derailer to smallest gear in front and largest in back. Remove cable from derailer and adjust lower limit screw for back of derailer to have one millimeter gap from chain. Reattach cable to derailer and tighten cable screw at shifter all the way. Then try to shift between first and second gear. (This is where I begin to have issues.)
Step three: shift to largest gear and smallest rear gear. Adjust high limit screw to on millimeter gap fron front of derailer to chain.
This should in theory be it right. But yet most the time I can get it to shift up but not back down.
Im guess im not doing Step one quiet correctly but ive tried at least 10 times to no resolve. I just bought this bike second hand for 300 bucks and feel like I cant really use it.
I would be down to just buy a new derailer but not sure what to buy or where.

It’s been a long time since I’ve tuned a front derailleur but they’re tricky. I always had trouble. Honestly if you walked into a local bike shop and told them you were having trouble they may help you right on the spot free of charge. That’d be my first option. You probably don’t need a new one, you’re probably just missing a step. Local bike shop first. Then go from there.
